I said at the time it was a bad move for him. He was an inexperienced striker with one PL season with a small club. He would have done better going to a club like ours or equivalent for a couple of seasons to learn his trade.

When you are at a top 6 club the fans expect to see the finished article not a young man learning his trade. Ipswich and Palace fans are far more forgiving, if Ipswich had survived I would have told him to stay put for another season.

If JPM is going I would certainly enquire but I suspect Chelsea will want silly money.

Indeed - At the time, part of me wondered if Chelsea took him to ensure Ipswich wouldn't survive.

Still technically on our books until the end of this month. I didn't expect anything about him at the world cup to feature on the club website though.

It's a possibility. Wouldn't take this as a sign to put your house on it though. Whilst some looking to the future will have happened, Sage is barely through the door or basically isn't even here yet, and Hobbs will want to sit with him on a number of occasions before we start our business proper.

I hope not. Sage doesn't start till 6th July and the transfer window opened today. i Don't want us spending the next 3 weeks twiddling our thumbs until Sage arrives. In any event it's Hobbs' job to recommend players to the board and I suspect Sage, now he's signed the contract, will be made aware of our targets. We need to get moving and have the new players ready for when Pierre arrives for pre-season.

It doesn't mean we need all of our business done by 6th July. That's incredibly unrealistic for any club, let alone us with a track record of late deals.

He is through the door now, that was the main part we were all waiting for. It is the discussions that have to start, and they will be going on every day now, behind closed doors.

You'd hope he's already given his thoughts on potential signings and will know the likely budget.

Yes, but it's not just a finger click after that, nor the end of their discussions with each other.

Anyone identified between them, Hobbs will have to go to their clubs, their agents, etc over the coming weeks. None of those deals will be a guarantee, all of them will take time.

If he comes back with nothing, they will talk again. If he comes back with something, they will talk again.

Rinse and repeat until deadline day.

Sounds familiar. 😉 I'd like to think we've already approached agents of players on the list and have bids ready to go.
