For the very obvious and good reason that we live in a representative democracy. Not a direct democracy in which we consult the people on every subject before acting.I think we can say that while we don't want anyone being burnt in houses, we don't want them here.
Opinion polls have always shown that.
We were never asked.
We choose the MPs we want to take decisions on our behalf. Using the time and expert advice their job provides to reach conclusions.
Why do you expect to be asked? You were asked at the GE who you wanted to represent you.
