I think you can forget what any manager does at Chelsea or Spurs, lost causes, De Zerbi and Alonso will be gone by Christmas.

Iraola going Liverpool. I heard rumours about Lampard. Dino Toppmoller (on top 5 list odds on to be Palace manager) wouldn't be bad. Was Frankfurt manager before (Like Glasner). Plays a 4-2-3-1 but has also played 3-4-3. It will be interesting to who becomes the new manager. Playing in the Europa League next season definitely has made it a more attractive club for managers. But the question is what will Palace do this summer? Will they spend on another 4-5 players?

The more I think about it, Parish finds himself in a bit of a bind. Caught between the success of the departing manager and the brief for the incoming can't be easy. Premiership = don't get relegated, ok a job for Roy. Europe, take us as far as possible = a job for OG. Combine the two with a lesser squad and hope new signings come good sharpish. I am not so certain who can take up this role effectively.

Here are my thoughts, such as they are.

Anyone who is going to be available is probably now available. Most big clubs have done their business now, which allows the rest of the market to settle. There is no obvious need to wait and see this year, unlike many other years.

Surely we would only pay compo for Lampard, McKenna, or anyone else in work if they were a better manager than one of the out of work options, like Frank, Toppmoller, Dyche, etc. Otherwise why would we do it? And, are either of them better than the ones we can get for free? Not obviously. That suggests we will go for an out of work manager.

We were never, ever going to get Iraola. By all means have a go, but it'd be absolute f***ing madness to pin any serious hopes on it. Football management is snakes and ladders on speed and right now, for this one moment, he's at the top of the biggest ladder. In other words, out of our reach barring unexpected circumstances. I expect, and it is reported, that the club saw things that way, hence the tight deadline he was given. That suggests other options would have been assessed at the same time.

All of which leads back to much the same set of names. Toppmoller. Frank. Dyche. Etc. It surely won't be Dyche as Parish is a bit of a dreamer when it comes to this stuff (hence Pardew, De Boer, Glasner, the attempt to get Nuno or Favre - in different ways he wanted to aim high and/or avoid conservative pragmatic coaching unless in a bit of a pickle).

Which narrows it further....

Someone with a bit of sophistication, even if only in terms of reputation. Surely that means someone who has operated at a level the players will be impressed by. It worked with Glasner. So, someone who has managed at the top end of a league, and in Europe.

So, not Frank.

I think it's gonna be Dino

I have the same feeling, can't say I know that much about him but I didn't about Glasner either.

My other consideration would be the guy we've just beaten. Inigo Perez, is now officially a free agent and has hugely impressed in Spain whilst stepping up to coach Rayo. The more I read about Rayo with their budget and facilities the more remarkable his achievements become. If we were desperate to land Iraola then his disciple is surely the next best thing.

I think some of the names being linked are speculative, or put out by agents to keep their clients in the frame.
There's a huge difference in the types of managers being linked, and I would have thought it wouldn't be such an open house with there being a more focused approach on what we're looking for.

For example there's a big difference between appointing a young British manager with some Premier League experience like Lampard abd McKenna to an overseas coach with no experience of the Premier League like Topmoller or Sage.
And then there's the more experienced out of work experienced managers like Frank and Dyche.
In the case of the latter surely we would have appointed one of them already if they were genuinely in the frame?
To go for one of them now could indicate everyone else has turned us down!
Personally I like Frank but I heard a theory, perhaps unfair, that his success at Brentford was more due to how the club was run than because of Frank's unique management skills.

Forget Iraola now that the Pool have sacked Slot. If they are sniffing about him he won't come to the Palace. Needed a firm commitment before today. Usual spanner in the works for us sorting out a manager. Personally I'd be happy with Frank, Thomas not Lampard. Proven experience in the PL with a similar profile to Palace and has longevity as been at a "bigger club'. Might say his time at Spurs wasn't great but that club is a toxic environment for any manager. Set the foundations at Brentford for a solid PL team, just like Ollie has done here. As a result he can take on the mantle here. Whilst Lampard has similar in terms of a bigger club, Frank is not attached to a club presently so if he's keen no ummhing n arrghing.
Second that! Iraola was never interested and why should he be? Out of a dire PL season over all, I would pick Bournemouth as the most exciting and enjoyable team. Therefore reasonable that their manager was looking up for his next appointment. Would be happy with Brentford-Frank and please, no Lampard or Dyche!

A great suggestion. Unsure if he speaks good English, but definitely a more interesting option than Frank, McKenna etc.

I can't understand the thinking about Iraola. Why would he want to come to Palace, it's a sideways move. A bigger club was always going to poach him.

Unless of course he made promises to Parish and has reneged, I don't get why were were waiting for him.

I really hope it is not Lampard.

I’m off on holiday Tuesday, I’m wondering if our new manager will be in place by the time I get back……….maybe if I was going for three months and coming home in August🤣
