Crystal Palace vs. Rayo Vallecano match thread

After years of following Palace through mediocrity and near misses, it is kind of strange to be winning stuff. As an older person, it just doesn't have the same impact for me as it would have done 20 or more years ago.
I never seriously thought that we would ever win a European trophy and now we have, I guess the next ambition is to win the Europa and get in the Champions League. What spoils this for me is that out best ever manager is leaving for supposedly bigger things, and one can't help but feel a sense of futility about trying to progress as a club when all your best players and staff move on as soon as you have some success. Imagine having Eze, Olise and Guehi with some more signings at the club next season with Glasner still in charge. We could have achieved anything.

I guess we just have to enjoy these good times and accept the nature of personal ambition.

Good side Macclesfield. Beat winners of a European trophy

They have. Hope the Saints are saying the same thing on Saturday night.

If we do win, then maybe Macclesfield and the Saints should play a pre-season match to see who's the best team in Europe.

At the start of last season, if someone said you'd win these 3 trophies in 13 months, would you have believed them?

TBH I think someone shouting in the street at night in Catford falls into the bracket of routine mundanity… so probably not!
Someone shouting would've been a result on all the nights I walked through the ghost town which was Rushey Green in the seventies. Second to walking past Nunhead cemetery that was an eerie place.

Wow!

After a lifetime of being Palace through and through. I never ever thought I'd see this day. The FA cup was fantastic, but to win in Europe too!!! I wish my Uncle Harry, Aunty Rose and my older brother Tony could have been here to witness it.

We are the fortunate few who have finally witnessed what Palace can achieve, what the people who came before only could dream of.

Thousands of old die hard Palace supporters didn't get a chance to see this. RIP guys we got there finally.

COYP!

Yup.

Some after the game thoughts as I wait for my coach to leave for Berlin...

What a day. Another one of those special Palace days where the air just felt different. A rare opportunity to see us in (and win) a European cup final.

The game wasn't the best but we did our job. Kamada and Wharton as a pair are just class and we will miss Daichi next season.

I now have a soft spot for Rayo. I was sat in the "neutral" area and surrounded by them, they were very loud and I worried for my eardrums if they scored. They were a complete class actually, sang throughout, had a great display and were proper fans. Nothing plastic or big time about them. They never stopped making noise for their team and even applauded our lads when they lifted the trophy. Didn't get one sniff of negativity from them and at no point did I even think I'd have any hassle from them being surrounded by them.

I hope they do well next season and get back in Europe.

For us, a really exciting season awaits with some mouth-watering away days on the horizon.

I've long forgotten how much it cost to get me here booking last minute; it was worth every penny

It's a bugger getting transport back to the hotel but apart from that a perfect day, Kamada and Mitchell moms 4 me, bloke next to me pointed out they'd doubled up on Sarr and weren't too bothered with Pino out of position on the leftfirst half, Ollie must have done a bit of tactical tweaking cos used the left side better second half when attacking

Well done to those who made it to Leipzig. Was a great night at Selhurst.

First half was tight but we could have got the lead. Second half we were totally dominant. Just one of those where you worry the other team could snatch something out of nowhere. But we are so used to being in those defensive positions I didn't really have too many concerns once we'd taken the lead

Yes we should have grabbed the second

But we were far better than them though I wish them well and hopefully they will do well in future. A very interesting club.

But Palace worthy champions of Europe. So tired now. Need to lie down. Happy.
