When I first went regularly, which was in the 70s, there were abandoned houses everywhere, a legacy of population decline. You could buy them for peanuts and some people I knew did that, moved there from the UK for their retirement and enjoyed a great life. My wife will be in Dublin on Monday and Tuesday but not in a position to really observe too much.

Nothing at all though compares to the corruption surrounding Trump. His family and associates are seemingly able to profit from the dramatic stock fluctuations seen in the past months caused by Trump’s regular flip flopping over Iran. Which either sends the oil prices skyrocketing or collapsing. Whether he is deliberately tipping people off or is just so inept that they can read what he is about to do through private remarks is unknown.
Then there is the new slush fund being established to “compensate” people who have “suffered” as a result of political persecution. Like the Capitol rioters. Or himself! Better described as a way to pay of personal loyalty when in breach of the law.
When you think there’s nothing else he would do that could be any worse than he has already done he seems to always find something more shocking.

I think it's valid to mention stock market corruption in relation to Trump.
But it's not just Trump, so many of these feckers do it that it shouldn't be a partisan issue.

Trump though is in a league of his own. He is corrupting the Presidency. Of the USA, the shining light of democracy in a challenged world. In doing so he is corrupting democracy, our heritage and our children’s futures.
He needs to go and be replaced by someone, whatever their politics, who publicly denounces what has happened, commits to holding those involved to account and to restoring the good name of the USA.
Right now it’s a laughing stock and the future has been handed to China on a plate.

The UK government speaks about free speech while being the most authoritarian UK government on free speech in....well, I suspect for possibly hundreds of years.
The more left wing a government gets the more authoritarian it becomes.
It doesn't actually believe in free speech and nor did the Tory government before it......both called for and supported and passed into law restrictions on free speech.
In terms of the Tories.....Just part of why no one should trust them again.
But why do I refer to this?
Well, the UK government have just banned the latest people from entry to the UK and it's Hasan Piker, who is a Twitch streamer and political commentator and Cenk Uygur. Usually they are banning right wing people but this time it's left wing.
I think Piker is awful and while I respect some things Uygur has said in modern times he is also a committed leftist whose's values degrade the west.
Nevertheless agreeing with someone politically shouldn't have anything to do with banning them from travelling to the country.
Our governments literally put illegals into hotels and then in many instances give them citizenship after all that illegality to enter......In most cases they get to roam the country for years.
Yet because you're a right wing or left wing commentator you can't speak at some rally or convention? Unless you are someone pushing violence this shouldn't be a thing.
An absolute embarrassment to the history of the country.
