D-Day for Spygate

My guess is they will try and mitigate their guilt by throwing the peeper under the bus. "He over stepped the mark, we never actually told him to do it...."

To be fair I think all clubs try and get info on their opponents and legally he did nothing wrong. Their training ground can be observed from the adjacent gold course.

I'm going for a fine.
This morning I thought that was about right but predictions have a way of coming unstuck.

Personally, I believe that whilst they breached the regulations on more than one occasion, their removal from the play-offs was the wrong decision.
Examining the consequences, their supporters have already made travel arrangements, they might have booked accommodation, they have already paid hard-earned money (Which I accept will be refunded), the club would have made their own arrangements for their players and staff etc etc etc. Middlesbrough and their supporters now have to make arrangements with just a few days to the final.Total upheaval.Hull are complaining that they will now face a different club at short notice and could instigate legal action should they be defeated in the final.
Leeds were fined £200,000 for spying against Derby, Southampton have been denied competing in a game worth over £200 Million.

Southampton should have received a hefty fine and a significant points deduction and such punishment should be the standard for any such transgressions. Should in future some club in mid-season is found to have breached 'Regulation 127' in similar fashion then there will not be the opportunity to deny them a play-off place and deny them the chance to earn £millions accordingly perhaps the only sanctions available will be fines and points deductions - they won't be prevented from playing games !

A significant fine and a harsh points deduction would set a precedent.Southampton should not be treated differently to other clubs who might transgress during the season.

Southampton lose their appeal .
Right decision as far as I’m concerned .
Turns out this is normal in Germany.
Well not over here my old mate. And none of the English staff told the German it was illegal. Apparently sent 2 spies to Eastleigh to watch Ipswich train; dressed in Eastleigh kits. Ffs got the book and deserved it. More points could be deducted aside of legal payouts coming.
Saints to sinners 😳

And, the players are threatening to sue the club for potential loss of earnings. Unsure how this will pan out as Saints were thrown out before the play-off final rather than if they had won it.
Agree that the penalty is disproportionate to the deed.
Would have preferred a hefty fine, dismissal for those in the know, and an 8-12 points deduction next season in whichever league Saints start. If that was the Prem at least it would guarantee us second from bottom. Lol!
However, my real concern is that the 115 charges against City, dating back to 2008, have still not been been dealt with while CPFC and Saints have been penalised in short order by UEFA and the FA.
One rule for the top clubs another for the rest!

Right decision on appeal imo.

It was essential to retain the integrity of the championship, to lay down a marker that cheating cannot be tolerated.

😎
Good aspiration. Because if Southampton were to be promoted to play against teams like Chelsea and Man Citeh, it's important that the rules are to be seen for everyone to stick to. 😀

Hull city owner making noises about how the play-off should be scrapped and Hull given automatic promotion lol .
I’ll be supporting the Boro on Saturday .
Come on the Boro !!! Spoken in my best north east Accent .

They need to introduce a system whereby the best three clubs can be gleaned from the 40 odd games they play over several months of the league season, and scrap the playoffs. Perhaps taking their final position and points into consideration. I know such a radical system would have cost us in the past but I still think you can generally identify three teams worthy of promotion from the fact they've all played each other twice.

A shame that Manchester City have hitherto got off scot free in respect of their industrial-scale transgressions. But we all know that consistency was never one of the football authorities' strongest suits.

Play offs being expanded next season. 3 - 8 placed teams in it….

Awful decision imo. It feels similar to us being demoted from the Europa, the punishment doesn't fit the crime, especially when you have the likes of Chelsea flaunting the financial rules at everyone/ City's 115 charges that dont seem to be getting resolved, feel sorry for the fans !

I genuinely think some of the VAR decisions against us this season are worse than spygate, yet we cant do anything & now Boro have now gained a huge advantage...because of 1 idiot.

Anyway rant over...hopefully we can copy Villa next Wednesday - COYP

Yup what a moron.

What kind of signal is the Hull chairman sending his own players and fans "we are scared of Boro".

It's a one off game against opponents they have played twice this year and god knows how many times in the last few years. They are not unknowns.

What he should have said is "we don't care who we face in the final we are up for it and will take on all comers". If I was a Hull fan I would be embarrassed. If they lose he will probably sue and is bound to lose.

The Man City charges are under the Premier League jurisdiction, not UEFA or FA. That's why they are getting away with it, the PL haven't the bottle to sanction them.
Southampton deserved what the got, a fine is no good, as they could of got £200m in the Premier. So a fine of say £10m, wouldn't bother them and shows the benefit of cheating.

Exactly. The biggest travesty in football was when the FA caved and allowed the PL to police itself. So the governing sports board doesn't err govern.

Maybe it's me being old and simple, but what 'secrets' were Southampton hoping to unearth ?
*They were kicking the ball to each other
* Some players were kicking the ball into the goal
* A guy in a green sweater was catching the ball.

I realise it's probably to do with watching free-kicks or penalty taking.

The financial penalty for Southampton , like it was for Palace in the Europa League, seems highly disproportionate
When you consider what top Premiership teams get away with, it seems massively out of kilter

Thing is, what exactly did Southampton learn from watching Boro train? It's not like the enemy getting their hands on your secret surprise battle plan in a war or something. Every team can watch every other team play every week, so whatever plan you've got is hardly secret.

I mean, I could tell you what team and tactics Glasner will select for the final right now. No need for me to hide in a bush with binoculars.

I'm not saying I'm not hiding in a bush with binoculars. Might be.

The FA will now be investigating and there will probably be further chsrges.

Hopefully they will take into account that Saints punishment is more than adequate already.

They should be able to sort themselves out for next season, the four points deduction can be made up quire quickly.
