Bournemouth vs. Crystal Palace match thread

That would be my one consolation if the worst did happen, the meltdown on here from those that are so cock sure it won’t happen
tbf I was one of those not so long ago🤣
As I have said on another thread - for us to go down would mean West Ham and Spurs to both have near perfect endings to the season, i.e. Champions League form. And also, as someone has pointed out above that means Leeds lose two of their last three and they are on the same points and only +1 better on GD. So that pushes them close to the trap door. Leeds beating Spurs at the weekend also guarantees their safety too.

I'm a pessimist when it comes to Palace and scarred by Oldham but even I am about 97% certain it's going to be Spurs or West Ham going down.

Just a reminder we played Man City and Arsenal in our last to games in the Oldham season as well, let’s hope lightening doesn’t strike twice 😉

Shame if we do go down, because I’ve already done Lincoln away 🤣

I don’t know about Riad. He was a liability in the first half. Miles out of position a lot of the time and some very poor decisions. At one point he was ahead of our midfield and went to ground missing the ball and letting them break up field. Also looked off the pace and physically lightweight. Did improve when Mitchell came on but looks a long way off being somebody we can trust regularly in the league.

I agree with the light weight comment. Definitely not strong on the air etc. I don't think he could play in a back 4 ATM, and the left of a back 3 is his only position (albeit that's the position we bought him for).

I'll give him time as he's been injured for almost 2 years, but needs a good pre season and hopefully some gym work.

Like what I have seen of him so far. Good on the ball, quick enough and don't forget he had Delvenny on his left. Give him time and with our young French starlet at 19 we have two gems in defence.

The panel also voted 5-0 that a penalty awarded to Bournemouth in the 29th minute of their 3-0 home win over Crystal Palace should have been overturned.

Marcos Senesi went to ground claiming contact from goalkeeper Dean Henderson, and referee Rob Jones pointed to the spot. The VAR Peter Bankes decided to uphold the decision.

"Henderson drops the ball, reaches for it and Senesi goes down under very minimal contact from the goalkeeper," the panel said.

"The referee's call of a penalty was incorrect and that VAR should have intervened to recommend a review."

which is basically what tens of thousands of fans said at the time but in more colourful language.

Perhaps he can come on here and defend Jones
Jones made a decision in real-time in a high-pressure situation, the panel in a tranquil situation with the benefit of replays unanimously concluded differently.
Dermot Gallagher who has received criticism on HOL for always supporting the referee's decision stated that he did not conclude that a penalty should have been awarded.

Eh ?

In real time it was never a penalty. Both him and VAR need to be disciplined, the officiating since. Webb took over has got worse and worse. The inconsistency of decisions is killing the game… fact

Ah that’s alright then

Dermot Gallagher articulated as to why the VAR did not recommend that the referee should consult the monitor.
Explanation after about 2 minutes.

I think you will find that VAR told Jones it was soft “ are you sure you want to stay with your decision?” Jones “ yes” VAR could insist he looked at monitor, but all pals together. 5-0 says Jones was completely wrong, how can you defend that? Oh wait…
Serious question Willo was this a poor decision by the ref? Was it a penalty?

Dermot Gallagher has provided an explanation and I have nothing further to add on this matter.
I re-iterate that the members of the panel have reached their conclusions free from pressure and with the benefit of replays. Rob Jones made a decision in real-time in a high pressure situation.

Isn't access to replays one of the benefits of VAR?
Dermot Gallagher receives criticism because his job is to be deliberately provocative. Howard Webb is more critical of refereeing decisions on the programme he does with Michael Owen but he has to comment when they've played recordings of the conversation between the ref and VAR officials.

Of course VAR has access to replays, but Dermot Gallagher has explained why on this occasion the VAR did not recommend that Rob Jones should consult the monitor.
I do not believe that Dermot Gallagher's TORs include being "Deliberately provocative".He provides honest informative assessments.

Strange how often Howard Webb disagrees with his honest informative assessments and because of his position his opinion is vastly more important.
