Shakhtar Donetsk vs Crystal Palace Match Thread

the JSL goal gets better every time you watch it. Great night for Palace.

I must mention the play acting and diving from the opposition, it really is pathetic and disgusting I don't know how you can look yourself in the mirror after some of those antics. Just shows how the modern footballer really has no shame. And how the referees fall for it - you have to be a real mug to be convinced by some of that, when everyone else in the stadium can see it for what it it. Also appreciate that a couple of our players made a meal of things.

Agree re the JSL goal!

Plus, it seemed their players would go down after even minimal contact and almost always holding their faces as if struck. A roll over or two was often thrown in for good measure. No wonder my rugby following friends take the mick out of football players.

The play acting last night from Shakhtar players was starting to wind me up, why do they go down holding there face for any contact above the belly button.
I’d love to see VAR step in and tell the ref to issue a yellow when there has clearly been no contact with the head.

I think we should release to the press we are interested in Arda Turan as manager, then contact the club and say we want to approach Turan after the second leg, he wont know his arse from his elbow.

we were having the exact same conversation. If they had really been struck in the face then it should be a straight red card, so do the refs know what they're playing at and just ignore it? Which then makes it acceptable which is totally wrong. Agree with you on VAR reviews, it's blatant cheating to try to win an advantage and get a player carded - shouldn't be accepting it as part of the game.

Feeling very positive this morning, I reckon it will be Strasbourg who will go through so how do feel about that ? Mid table in the french league As the Prem is a stronger league gotta make favourites
Like others, not wanting to get ahead of ourselves. I did have a look though at the highlights of the other SF and some of the match reports and fans views. Strasbourg were really poor last night as they were in the QF away leg against Mainz but then were brilliant at home in the second leg. Vallecano though are a decent outfit but again on the QF second leg nearly threw away a 3 goal lead. So who knows!

But turning to the second leg at Selhurst the pessimist in me thinks it's a long way from being over. If Shaktar get the first goal, and I think they will go for it, then it's really all up for grabs.

Whilst i agree somewhat with Canvot, you really think Johnson is a better player than Pino?
No I don't Eagleman, but Canvot and Pino were the players with cards and my point, badly made obviously, was that I'd sooner see Canvot start the final than Pino.

I really struggle to understand what's the problem with Johnson. He surely has potential, after all he scored Spurs winning goal in their European final didn't he? On the other hand Canvot has come on in leaps and bounds and his contribution to our game now is quite staggering. Of course,, that's just my very humble opinion.

I'm also assuming we're in the final, so hope that hasn't put the mockers on it.

I’m aligned with other in not assuming we’re there in Leipzig, however as a powerless nervy pessimist, I am unusually confident.

Shakhtar seem to be front loaded with Brazilians who have plenty of technical capability however, to continue the stereotypes, our methodical Austrian manager seems to have calculated the winning formula.

Selhurst should be absolutely rocking and I hope the team are too. If they get the first goal early, could be nerve shredding stuff. However if we do, or the game stays goalless for a while, I think we’ll see it through perhaps comfortably.

Really is absolute madness, my emotional state never changes whether it be Championship relegation battles, the playoffs, PL relegation battles, the FA Cup or a European semi-final, but I never thought I’d see Palace in this position.

What a wonderful time for us as fans, surreal as it may be.

Absolutely no clue as to who is going to win it on the other side, Raya scraped a 1-0 win.
Should we seal the deal in the return leg I'd like it to be them rather than Strasbourg who gave us a bit of a hiding last time, though it was a good game.
