It's the difference between ideals and pragmatism. The right need power before they can do anything, or they will just be complaining from the sidelines for another 5 years.

The same applies to every political party. Something I have frequently argued here. Extreme politics, from either the left or the right, will never command enough support to be in power long enough to actually do anything.

It’s why occupying the centre is vital. To do that you must reach compromises and look for partners who share more than they disagree about. Labour isn’t truly left these days. They are centre left for pragmatic reasons, having been handed power by the disastrous last Tory government. Who in opposition have not yet learned the lesson and seem determined to commit suicide. Only when the Tories stop trying to imitate Reform and establish themselves as a centre right party with the morality of the Lib Dems and Labour but with fiscal responsibility as a red line, will they stand a chance again. Them coming out, admitting Brexit was a huge error and committing to reversing it would be both revolutionary and hugely attractive to many.

That would dump the right for good, but recapture most of the last Labour vote.
