Missing Guehi ?

At the moment I think we are managing the transition in an OK fashion, Chadi Riad coming back from injury has certainly helped things - I still have commitment issues about JD, but he is still young & he has certainly shown signs of developing.

Just putting it out there. IMHO don't believe the team has been too badly effected by the lose of Mark. Canvot seems to be a very good replacement.
Don't get me wrong would have Guehi back in a heartbeat as he is one of the best.
Interested in other people's view of it
Since Guehi departed we have conceded 17 goals in 16 games, however 4 of those encounters were against Zrinjski Mostar and Fiorentina who are hardly top quality opposition and we also conceded 3 at home to struggling Burnley.
Of course the only way young inexperienced players gain experience is by playing in the first team and Guehi's departure has 'Opened the door' for Canvot to gain valuable time in the cut-and-thrust of the PL and Europe. Whilst not flawless, he has 'Made his mark' and long may his development continue.

I think JD Canvot has come on leaps and bounds since his regular starts

I actually enjoy watching a player develop their craft and learn from their mistakes - and his improvement has been immense this season IMHO

The icing on the cake has been the recent increase in positive forward runs and some very clever forward passes into attacking players, which definitely have echoes of a certain Mr Guehi 👍👏

He should only get better with experience - and is only 19!!! 😱

Like others, I would love to have Guehi in the team (along with Olise and Eze) - but credit to the whole Palace set up for not letting things fall apart after losing key players

Jadee has been an excellent signing, but I can't see him being here for long. If we can get next season out of him and he continues to get better, we could get anything for him & the rebuilding starts again.

Not ideal, but our model hasn't let us down yet!

Totally agree. If he played for LiverArseCiteh Sky would be all over him.
Tyrick is similar and is also adding to his game in ways that aren't natural to him.

He has a four year contract. Since he has contributed far more than anyone could have expected of him in his first year at his age in a difficult league to adapt to we should be able to offer him an updated contract this summer.

At 19 I hope he won't be thinking I'll just annoy the club and refuse to negotiate a new contract as he is getting so much game time. He should be getting a new 5 year deal on decent money if he agrees no buy out clause because who knows what he might be worth if he continues his progression.

An understandable mistake and lack of judgement in him at his age but his progressive play, forward passing and rampaging runs, is excellent and he's been instrumental in two goals in the last two games.

Yes much has been said about us selling our best players, but we do seem to recover pretty well. Canvot looked well dodgy in his first few games, but now he’s been forced into a run in the team he’s improved and I’m not sure our defence would’ve been any better recently with guehi in it

He's quite useful in the air too which has been a bit of a weakness for a while.

I’m not sure it was guehi or Anderson’s strong point, both great on the deck, but we always looked vulnerable when teams slung the ball over into the penalty area. Richards and LaCroix certainly improved that after Anderson left and we switched to three CB’s

They did. I was never totally convinced by Andersen - always thought he looked better than he actually was.

I don't agree with that at all. To my eyes he looked quality for all his inexperience and, crucially, he was played out of position on the right when his left - footedness lends itself much more to being on the left of the three; as demonstrated of late. Also, in that position he can gain vital knowledge under the stewardship of Tyrick: no better tutor.

People forget that Lacroix looked a bit shaky at the start. I recall him dithering and losing the ball on the half line which led directly to a goal (can’t remember which game).

Canvod was similarly shaky but, goodness me, he had come on in leaps and bonds. His good distribution has certainly been a feature for a while, but only in the last two games have I noticed him making barnstorming forward runs. He looks an outstanding prospect.

His passing is very good - he's trying to pick a man and not just belting Hail Mary 40 yarders.
If he fills out any more he'll be bouncing them off on his runs. If Doucoure ever gets back we'll have a couple of powerhouse runners.
