Main Stand redevelopment thread

Correct you are! After my post I recalled Lambeth were involved, didn't know about Lewisham and Southwark however!
Yes, it's owned by Bromley, who don't want it, but due to boundaries the other 4 councils mentioned touch it and therefore have a say, as do the well organised and financed nimbies.

Moving to CP Park have been debated for years and Noades tried it before investing in the Holmesdale.
It is a non starter and surprised all supporters above the drinking age aren't aware of this.

Let's not go back and re-open a 30 year discussion.

But can I just say again: it is being redeveloped isn't it?

You can't compare US to UK.

US sports operate nothing like UK ones as well.

If Tex had full control stadium would have been done already the evidence was Academy SP etc messed about for year Tex comes in done straight away.
You are surely joking? Textor ie Eagle Football has just gone bankrupt, his clubs are up for sale - he couldn't pay his creditors the money he borrowed to buy the clubs so foreclosure. He's a total shyster and this was after he stitched us up and got into bed with Marinakis through Botofogo and Brazilian player trading with Forest.

If only he was.

Yes not with a 40 to 50k stadium thats used possibly every week , I've tried to get away from there with 16k , it was easier to get from selhurst by car and selhurst has 3 stations plus buses , crystal palace has 1 plus buses, infrastructure cant handle football matches there

Rubbish. The stadium site is near the middle of the Park and has four stations around it: Crystal Palace, Anerley, Penge West and Penge East. In addition it has a bus terminus on the Parade and 16 bus routes skirt the perimeter (not including night buses). The park used to host motor racing until 1972 attracting 100,000 people and firework nights, operated by the Rotary Club, up to 40,000 until covid stopped it. With the opportunity to run trams from East Croydon and stop Thameslink trains near Penge West there is no reason why a 50,000 stadium cannot be accommodated with minimal car use.

I'm sure you are right, but it won't be happening. It hasn't been happening for a long time.
If it was going to happening any time in the next 30 years, we wouldn't be building a new stand.

Let it go.

Far enough for the locals what about us who don't live in London , I'm basing my experience on driving back to essex by time i got to my car and got out car park it was close to 3 hours to do a hour and 20 journey ive moved to Shropshire now , not a issue for day games but night games different issue , so its not just simple as getting you home 👍🏻

Thats true. No idea how that got sorted but it seems like it did.
Think it's fairly obvious. Football and the weekly risk of the obviously antisocial drunkard fans were not wanted by the councils, where the occasional middle class follower of athletics with their 2.4 kids and seat on various Parents Governing Bodies will be welcomed with abandon.

I think anything is possible if enough money exchanges hands and that would need to come with a complex featuring not only football but shops and entertainment that makes money and employs people.

Unfortunately, that isn't happening any time soon, so I don't really know why fans punish themselves by continuing to cling on to it.
It is a tragedy, because even a Selhurst Park with 40k would not be enough to compete with the elite clubs. A 50k brand new stadium in the park might just put us up there.

It would take the right people with the money and will to get it done. I doubt I will ever see it.

Bigger isn't better - you really don't to become like aRSenal, Chelsea or Tottenham do you?
I couldn't think of anything worse...

I wouldn't swap Selhurst for the world not even CP Park (even if it was our spiritual home)

Well that's fine if you want to stand still or go backwards. Personally I like progress.

When I think about the team we could have fielded had we not sold our stars it is quite depressing.
A big stadium doesn't guarantee success, but it certainly gives you a chance.

With everything going on in the world, Im not sure anyone will now!

I'm not sure the correlation between stadium size and transfer market muscle is particularly clear these days.

Once, the number of paying customers on a matchday was the major source of income for clubs, but now a lot of it is TV money. Hence Bournemouth are a feasible premier league club with a third division ground, and Newcastle are looking at a summer of big sales to balance the books despite full houses of some 52,000.

None of which means that redeveloping selhurst isn't worth doing, but I associate it more with setting us apart from those beneath us in the food chain than getting any closer to those above us.

Which does raise the question of whether, even if it was possible, we should think about leaving selhurst, even for a far bigger stadium. Look at how unhappy it seems to have made West Ham.

Wow. OK.

West Ham moved to a converted athletic stadium. It is far from ideal, but it cost them peanuts and they get plenty of income from the extra capacity. We would have a purpose built stadium in this imaginary future.

A larger stadium would be a first step in growing the club. In fact, it is the only way to build the club since there is a restriction on what you can spend. We will never be Liverpool or Man U, but we could be in the next level. Players are attracted to image and big crowds. We could also pay bigger wages which is crucial and we are in London which has always been attractive.

Staying at Selhurst risks standing still or going backwards, but that is what is happening like it or not.
Improving the ground is essential if we are to stay in the Premier League. It will keep us ahead of the Championship.

Considering you have to go through Penge West and Anerley en route to Crystal Palace on the train, I'd hardly say that stadium is serviced by 4 stations. Not to say the transport links are bad of course
