US Politics

Again, as typical with most of the left on here, you completely ignore the actual contents of the post and just make some meaningless whine about the poster.

I know that this is what you want, so I'll say that I think that in fact you are the one who has supported the extremists.

I grew up in the 80s, socially the majority in the country were at ease with themselves.

It's the people you support....or policies at least, who created the social discord and economic mess the country is in.
This coming from someone who routinely responds with personal comments and insults is risible.

If you think the people you describe as “left” aren’t really socialists but some kind of weird group holding attitudes you disagree with then I suggest you find a more accurate label.

Being of the left means, to everyone else, holding socialist values. If you want to be understood you need to speak the same language as the listener. Gobbledegook doesn’t cut it!

Deflecting from you inability to see yourself on the criticisms of others preferring elements of the past I see.

I usually insult people who are either whiners who start complaining about people or people who use insults themselves.

I regularly post and reply at non conservatives who communicate rationally and it's civil because they themselves operate rationally.

You will never be treated in the way you appear to think you deserve after your positions on the Police and institutional response to the grooming gangs and your attitudes to those who objected to Covid policies.

You are literally the guy who can't get over Donald Trump who's been around politcally since 2015.

You're the boomer who's living in the past who can't live in the present....complaining about others.
My long held opposition to Trump has been frequently ridiculed on here. There was never a need to “get over him”. There was always a need to expose and get rid of him.

If you really cannot now see the truth of that then you can only be in wilful denial.

I very much live for the future. What’s past can only serve as lessons. It’s not us that has changed. The whole world has changed and we have no choice but to accept that fact and do our best to adapt. Those who think they can isolate themselves fool nobody but themselves.

Of course it brings us problems that create difficulties. People like you being one of them.

Another risible post. You suggesting others cannot see themselves is really funny. There is no one here more guilty of that than you.

You have constantly misrepresented my position on the grooming gangs and how they were managed despite frequent patient corrections. Whenever you get an idea in your head it remains fixed there. Your obsessions with those bogeymen provide the daily proof of that.

My attitude to Covid was simple. The law applies to all so all must abide by it, whether they agree or not. Especially at a time of national crisis. Nothing political involved.

You were never misrepresented.
Oh I was, and still am.

I have been accused of defending those involved in the grooming and abuse of minors and excusing a perceived cover up by the authorities and the police. Neither is true. I abhor all kinds of child abuse, want any and every one involved brought to justice and our police and social services given both the support and resources to be able to do so.

My criticism of some of the attitudes promulgated in places like this, and in the right wing press, was of the unrealistic expectations placed upon people given an impossible number of tasks to accomplish without anything like adequate resources to do so.

That’s not at all what you said. You said the police quietly investigated and gathered evidence whereas in reality they did f-all and persecuted people who raised concerns.

A majority of the American public, polls suggest, have been against the ongoing US-Israeli military campaign in Iran from the day it started.

Republicans, however, have largely stuck by their president as the war approaches the end of its fourth week.

But that may be changing.

At the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Texas, some of the party faithful expressed concern about why the US started this war, how Donald Trump is going to end it and whether the effort has been worth the costs.

"I just wish that there was more transparency on why we're doing what we're doing, that way you could send your loved one overseas and be OK with that," said Samantha Cassell. "I hope it comes to an end quick, because it's the cost of living, the oil and gas, the prices are only going to keep going up."

Cassell, who lives in Dallas, and her friend Joe Bolick were attending their first CPAC conference. He also had his doubts about the war.

"I don't see an endgame yet," he said. "What are we actually trying to achieve? Is it true regime change? What does that look like? Who to replace them? I think we kind of got ourselves stuck."

CPAC has been welcoming ground for Trump for a decade, shifting from a libertarian-leaning gathering to one dominated by Make America Great Again loyalists. The conservative conference has traditionally been held just outside Washington DC, but this year it moved to a sprawling hotel complex near Dallas, Texas.

The atmosphere at this year's conference was similar to the past. A cavernous main auditorium offered days full of panels and speakers. A floor below, the exhibit hall featured plenty of conservative kitsch – a bus with the president's face on it, Trump 2028 T-shirts and glasses commemorating the 2024 attempted assassination of Trump with "bulletproof" written on it and a faux bullet embedded in its side.

It seemed obvious there was no end game from the start. Not that's not to say there isn't one. It's just not fathomable to myself, who forms opinions from the media.
The wildly fluctuating oil prices have seen a few well-connected people make considerable sums of money, but could that be a motivation for war ? It would seem opportunistic, but probably not worth going to war on its own.
Prospectively with world-wide jihadi's looking for revenge on the US and Israel, and military action drawing in affiliates and neighbours, is looking like rather a fcked policy, whoever thought it up.
Democrats haven't got much coverage in the European media. Are they for or against a Middle-East War ? or are they hedging their bets ?

The Democrats are solidly against this war. However so too are an increasingly large number of influential Republicans. Just watch some US media.
