My thinking exactly, I had to explain this to the Mrs last night while watching a chunk of Northern Ireland’s game

It always crosses my mind it must seem strange to foreign clubs when the northern Irish play the same national anthem as us

Possibly in relation to Rugby Union. I have not detected any antipathy directed at the England Football Team and I have visited Wales several times, engaging in football discussions with a plethora of kind souls. To this day I have Welsh friends who have never derided our International team.

Brennan Johnson was very poor last night. He was virtually anonymous during the game, until his penalty miss that is.

Dan James on the right side however looked quick, sharp, hungry and a threat all game. He scored a very good goal and nearly had a second from a very good jinking run and shot, which hit the bar. Wales were keen to get the ball to James at every opportunity and ignored the left hand side, that is until Sorba Thomas came on and Johnson switched to the right hand side. Then everything went down the left with Thomas looking very lively and the team keen to get the ball out to him.

On top of that Johnsons anticipation seemed well off, a number of times the ball came in from the left and he should have been in a position to get on the end of it but most of the time the replays showed that Johnson stopped his run or hesitated and so missed out.

A really poor showing from the man and I am very worried that we have blown £35M on f*ck all!

Of course he has been a major disappointment but he has only played in 16 games for us, some out of position, accordingly I am not writing him off as a 'Lost cause' at this juncture.
Perhaps as time progresses, I will pivot in that direction.
 
When Glasner was asked a few months ago what he would like for the January window he said he wanted another player to 'run in behind' as Sarr was the only player in the squad who would do this and we needed another option.

There's been no evidence of this so far at Palace, but he did demonstrate that ability at both Forest and Spurs.
In fact when he was at Forest I remember thinking that he was a player I wouldn't mind seeing at Palace.

Nonetheless, his form has dropped off a cliff and I don't see it improving in the current set up.
Perhaps a new manager will unlock his ability ( I bet he hopes it's not Frank who didn't seem to rate him).
 
I think we need to judge Johnson (and the rest of our attacking players) once Glasner has gone and a new manager has come in. Our attack hasn’t functioned for the last 5 months and nobody has looked very good with the sometimes exception of Sarr. That won’t change until Glasner is gone as it is clear him and his system is the major part of the issue here

I admit the performances so far are not encouraging but as I say I think we need to see him play under whoever is next before we completely write him off.

We should also remember we’ve seen players before who looked useless and then came good. JPM is an obvious example.

When teams defend in a 'Low Block' against us and our build-up play is ponderous, there is precious little space to run into behind the opposition defence.

I agree with your observation about the low block but was pointing out what Glasner had said he wanted in the window and was not considering it's merits.
 
I do wonder that Brennan Johnson doesn't want to be here at Palace.

He played his best football at Forest, and I wonder if he really wanted to go back there rather than come to us.

Is there a deal to be done with swapping Johnson for McAtee (who has lacked game time at Forest). They paid roughly the same for McAtee as we did for Johnson.

Johnson was born in Nottingham and was brought up in West Bridgford where the 'City Ground' is housed.
