Fiorentina in Italy... Florence Nightingale or Florence Nightmare ?

I went to Florence 2 years ago took a train from Bologna, I used the train service extensively on that holiday and it was fine.

So if people are having problems flying into Florence I would definitely recommend flying to a nearby city and taking the train. Also Pisa is just a short hop from Florence you can do it and get back to Florence in half a day.
Sienna is even better

Thanks and what are the real rivals where it gets a little toxic. Either with locality or history. Palace are a one town club and I think a few palace fans also have a soft spot for Croydon AFC and Bromley who are on the verge of an amazing promotion to league 1.
Above all others, our sporting rival, since 1982 when they stole our title, is Juve (referred to as 'Gobbi' - Hunchbacks). A long story to explain but this old article explains it well....

Fiorentina v Juventus: a rivalry stoked by 'theft', Roberto Baggio and machine guns

After the 'Calciopoli' scandal where they were behind controlling matches/referees (in addition to all their other scandals) we looked back in hindsight and realised the numerous times we've been cheated by them. We got fined heavily for a whole curva 'Juve Merde' tifo last season, so animosity is always there.

Pisa is the 'local'/Tuscan derby and to a far lesser extent, we have the 'Appennine' derby with Bologna and Empoli or Livorno (both Tuscan), depending on who's been in the same division. They're seen as insignificant/annoying smaller neighbours, so akin to how you see Charlton or Millwall I guess?!

Precisely!
Although I've nothing against Dulwich Hamlet
I'm told Ipswich folk also refer to Norwich folk as "Hunchbacks"

Charlton ? Never heard of them. Is that a football club ? Founded by Bobby Charlton ?

Oh and realistically I think we can progress but only if we stop hitting the bloody woodwork and finish our chances. Weirdly I think Pino may be our secret difference maker.
Pino made a lot of difference in Larnaca; I think 'European refereeing' may suit him; I also thought he got more freedom to play to his own strengths rather than OG's philosophy; these could well coincide again.

Florence is so packed of pictorial art … and most of it is free to see.

Cappella Brancacci. Brancacci Chapel - Wikipedia

Giotto frescoes in Santa Croce church

Strongly advice visit to the Officina di Santa Maria Novella, one of the oldest pharmacies

Many famous statues, now kept in different Florence museums, have copies in place of the original:

Michelangelo Moses ( exterior wall of Orsanmichele)
Michelangelo David ( Piazza Signoria and another in Piazzale Michelangelo.

Many would argue however that the best thing to visit and enjoy is a proper Florentine steak at Burde Restaurant or Zaza trattoria

As a Fiorentina fan, really looking forward to this! We had a terrible start to the season and although capable of inconsistency between (and within) games, think it will be a close game over both legs. We're not as good a team as previous seasons and 'in transition' both on and off pitch, but still can be dangerous and have a few good individuals.

Please feel free to ask me anything Fiorentina/Florence related as happy to help.

Hoping to attend 1st leg at Selhurst. Any tips on a friendly pub for away fans or a welcoming home one?!
Hi Yes, although you are restricted to a 22500 capacity this season your crowds in the Conf league have been very low 7-11000 indicating a lack of interest from your fans. Bearing in mind I expect about 3/4000 Palace to want to travel to Florence how many tickets will the club give Palace, rumours abound it's usually only 500? Thanks.

Forgive me if this has been asked already but why can't I buy tickets for the home game on the official site ?

They won’t yet be on sale to ST holders until 5-6 days before the game. Then the other phases after a day or two.
That’s how it’s been for all home game in the competition.
I bought my tickets for the Mostar home game on 3rd Feb, match was on the 26th.

I believe UEFA dictate that away fans must get a minimum of 5%? If so, Palace should get approx. 1200 based on our restricted capacity.

Or ask if you can pop on hi-vis and watch from our building site!

Yes I know about 5%. But Dynamo Kiev gave us 3,500 tickets in Lublin when they knew they wouldn't be able to sell all their tickets. Fredrikstad gave us 1,700 and the whole of one end. 5% is a requirement, but clubs CAN give more if they wish.

I explained earlier in the thread that due to our stadium renovation, we have restricted capacity though - effectively a half stadium. Our Ultras Curva has been relocated to the opposite end, so is now adjacent to the away fans in the corner 'cheese' section - there's never been a whole end as they're for home fans. Factor in a sell out for this game and it may not be much more than that.

We have accommodated more before - even extending it for thousands of Hearts fans a couple of years ago, but that was because it was low attendance and pre-renovation.
