Fiorentina... Florence Nightingale or Florence Nightmare ?

The think it will suit us better to play against a team that will have less terror of us (lets face it, most of the teams we have played so far have just parked the bus, time wasted and dived their way to a result).
The Viola are a proud and respected club in Italy. They will not want to be seen as being overly defensive. If we nick a result at home. A 1-0 win or even a draw I fancy us to go through because they will have a real go in Tuscany in front of their own fans.

2-0 on aggregate. (Strand-Larson & Sarr)
Trust me. We aren't good enough defensively to play that way! A lot will depend on which version of Fiorentina turns up, but I'm hoping for the attacking one. A draw would still be a positive result due to 2nd leg at home.

I certainly agree regards the quality of the referees we’ve had in the Congo League - bordering on L players standards

Yet what do we expect to be honest I’m sure the last ref did Sunday league under 12s in Latvia

But we need to focus on what wins games
Creativity , team work, moving off your marker, making runs not standing still on or off the ball , taking on your marker
Or am I getting confused with u12 in Latvia style ?

a shout out for Angelo Di Livio who stayed with the club when they were demoted to their version of the National League for corruption, bit like Nat Clyne when he stayed with us in administration but with knobs on

I went to Florence 2 years ago took a train from Bologna, I used the train service extensively on that holiday and it was fine.

So if people are having problems flying into Florence I would definitely recommend flying to a nearby city and taking the train. Also Pisa is just a short hop from Florence you can do it and get back to Florence in half a day.

Who said we'd play defensively? I thought it was obvious if Fiorentina have a real go it enables us to play our game. Soak up pressure high up the pitch, get passes into the runners, hit them on the break.
If thats the way the second leg goes, we'll win

Just to clarify, I never implied you (Palace) would play defensively at all. I was commenting on us (Fiorentina) in response to your comment: "The Viola are a proud and respected club in Italy. They will not want to be seen as being overly defensive".

Fiorentina have generally been one of the most attacking of Italian teams. Under Palladino last season, we played a bit deeper/low block which worked well against better teams. This season, we've tried out of necessity to be more defensive at times but it just doesn't work! Our best performances have been when we've pressed and been braver and more experimental in attack combined with being calmer and pragmatic when under pressure.

Ítalo is the bullet train service, very good and not expensive

Pisa is fantastic. You can walk off the airplane and straight into some cheap accommodation only 2 minutes away. No taxi required. Train station to Florence is also a short walk.

The locals , in Pisa, all hate Fiorentina. You may be given a free beer.

True. I usually travel to Firenze from Pisa as it's often the cheapest flights and quick/efficient too.
From Pisa airport, you can walk if staying or going to the centre - although it's a long walk of 45 mins if you want to see their tower or stadium on the other side.

Best to take the PisaMover automated shuttle (metro) which is 5 mins to Pisa Centrale station and then take 1hr train to Firenze SMN. If you want to see Pisa, my tip is to hop off the shuttle, put your luggage in the station locker so you're not lugging it around the streets and then when you exit, go straight ahead over river. Everything is within 20 mins walk.

Our football hatred goes back to medieval times and we've been shouted abuse in the street for walking around in Fiorentina colours (that was 2 years ago when Pisa hadn't even been in Serie A for over 20 years!). Allegedly the traditional salt-less bread still served in Florentine restaurants came to be because Florence folk refused to give money to Piseans for salt which came from there!

BTW, apart from Millwall and Brighton (I know that story from a Palace ex-colleague) do you have other rivals?

We hate Brighton - its our Derby game. We dont like Millwall.
Millwall's main rival is West Ham - then us.

We dont like Chelscum or Wimbledon.

Apart from Creepy Crawley, i cannot think of anybody else serious or significant to mention. Oh yes, Leyton Orient, or maybe a womens Pub team from Greenwich.

Hi jack
What is the size of the fanbase. Is it a sold out season ticket allocation. Out of interest.

The stadium 'Artemio Franchi' had a capacity of approx. 47,000 with typical attendance of between 35-40,000 but would only sell out for big league and Euro matches.

This season, due to whole stadium renovation, we're at roughly half capacity - around 22-25,000. The Curva Fiesole (ultras end of around 10,000) is closed and been moved to the opposite end, next to away fans, so this complicates segregation arrangements and capacity, depending on away team and size of support.

As a one team city of around 360,000 people, the fan-base is 7th or 8th largest in Italy I think, and we have a lot of worldwide fan groups now too.

I presume for Selhurst, the away allocation will be around 1500 ish? We have a lot of demand judging by comments I've seen and will no doubt sell out whatever we're given. Just hoping to get tickets!

Charlton are the main rival. Brighton's a sort of novelty rivalry, Millwall is just a neanderthal ghetto with some ancient dockers' bullsh*t with West Ham, but we and Charlton positively despise each other even though they are a provincial irrelevance to us nowadays.

Thanks and what are the real rivals where it gets a little toxic. Either with locality or history. Palace are a one town club and I think a few palace fans also have a soft spot for Croydon AFC and Bromley who are on the verge of an amazing promotion to league 1.
