Glasner Out

Cant but agree. Our back 3 look good as a back 3. I think they'd get found out as a back 2.

The protection it offers is great, hence why its seamed so easy for Clyne to slip in and perform.
it will definitely be a back 3. OG bought on a CB when Max was sent off to keep the defensive formation unchanged and refused to change it even when we were losing, so i'd say it's 100% certain we will play 3 CBs from the start tomorrow.

It’s no good having them up there if they are doing nothing.

The whole point of wingbacks is that it negates the need for wingers. If your wingers were not creating anything then no one would be happy, so why are you happy with Mitchell and Munoz’s stats since returning from injury.

Basically we are creating very little through these channels but we can definitely see the holes at the back it’s creating when they are forward and this is exactly what is being exploited by the opposition. Guehi used to read the game so well that he covered up for any weaknesses, but we look poor without him.

The point I was contesting was one that suggested our wing backs do not play high up enough - I was simply disproving that.

Mitchell set up the winner against Wolves.

On whom, our team were soundly battered on here for only just beating the 10 men of the bottom club. However, Wolves have done alright since...

And we also cruised past Bosnian opposition (remember we lost to Macclesfield) and were, for long periods, the better team against the in-form United (until officials intervened to give them the win).

Perhaps we are not that bad?

its try to explain the wheel to some posters.

I would be happy if our wingbacks were pulling back crosses for our CF to attack but I haven’t seen many crosses like that for some time.

Playing with Guesssand and Sarr you would think we would also pick up scraps around the box from such crosses, but again very little in evidence and the crossing stats support that.

I'm inclined to agree.

Whilst Mitchell may be getting up the pitch so would Paula Radcliffe or Mo Farah, and they'd probably be as about effective as him. Great player, one of my favourites of our current lot, but an attacking wingback he is not. Munoz has been a different player for a while now too.

The main difficulty for me would be the transition to a back four having played our formation for a while now. That could take a number of games on it's own. I don't buy into the notion that professional centre backs will be all at sea in a '4 at the back' set up though, they would have played there and got to this level having done that for the majority of their football playing lives.

As Roy Kent would say, they’ve been playing in a back 4 since they were at school. Of course they can play it. More swear words from memory though!

Disingenuous, and rude as ever.

You claimed our wing backs don’t play high up enough - that’s been completely disproved.

The other poster has made a completely different claim: they do play high enough, but they just don’t create enough, which is certainly a more valid criticism.

Don’t try and jump on the coat tails now.

Guessand scored from a Mitchell pull back against Wolves. Sarr missed a sitter from a Mitchell cross against Mostar.

Mitchell ranks in the 80th percentile of left backs for both chances creates and successful crosses this season.

Munoz has amassed 3.35 xA this season, which ranks in the 97th percentile for right backs - he's also in the 80th percentile of right backs for chances created .

So 79 better than both of them, FFS

I was careful to say before his injury. You won’t find many criticising his contributions prior to that.

I agree, as professionals they should be able to adapt quite easily. However we have all seen that Chris can’t play on the left of a back 3. I found that crazy, it’s not like he is being asked to play in midfield!

I have to say that I think Mitchell has been one of the more consistent players this season. Defensively he is very good and not very often beaten in a 1 on 1 situation, and I honestly think his attacking play has improved no end (from where he started!)
