500 quid!!We apparently turned down a £10M bid from Southampton just over a year ago for JRS, when they had the Tyler Dibbling monkey…absolutely madness!

I hope we never achieve the Citeh/Chelski model! The Academy should be feeding players into our first team squad so that we are less reliant on finding gems from the Championship. Those who don’t make it will hopefully generate some income by sales to lower league teams to cover our costs.Does anybody notice the weekly Loan Report on the CP App/Website. It's written as if all the loanees are world-beaters making significant contributions to their respective loan clubs, when in reality, as has been pointed out regularly, most of the time they are benched or don't make the match-day squad. Ozoh being the only exception if not injured. I think the acadamy is a moot point. I get the theory but so far, still quite early days, we are a long way from the Citee/Chelsea model i.e. 1) send player on loan 2) rinse & repeat 3) bring player back and include him for a few match-days 4) sell said player for ridiculous money with no evidence of value-for-money 5) said player sits on bench of mugged purchasor.

We will only attract and keep young talent if they see a route to first team football. Jesse Derry is an example of one we lost reportedly because he wasn’t getting a chance with the first team squad. Our current manager has shown some enthusiasm for allowing youngsters to train with the first team and putting them on the bench but then spoils that by a) not playing them, and b) making inappropriate comments about them to the press.
Whoever our next manager is, he needs to understand the importance of the academy to the team and be prepared to develop young players.
Agree with most, but surely the route to the 1st team is
1) academy,
2) Championship Club loan as early as possible
3) Recall to Palace 1 team if they cut it in the champ.
Some(most) will fall by the wayside and get sold off, but those that cut it, we don't have to buy off the Champ clubs!
And some may just be good enough to blood straight into the first team, but that probably shouldn't be the norm in an PL team, as there's too much at stake and it's more likely that they'll get burnt.

England's captain? Can anyone identify any premier player (who plays regularly in the premier) who began their career being loaned out on a regular basis before stepping into the first team.
What I am getting at is that from what i can see, most players who drop down to lower leagues to 'gain experience' rarely return and step up to make it as premier players.
There are examples of Premier Legaue players who got loaned out. Chalobah and Connor Gallagher spring to mind. However, they were loaned to premier league clubs (including us). What I can’t think of is an example of somebody who was loaned to a club in the Championship or lower. Can anyone identify any premier player (who plays regularly in the premier) who began their career being loaned out on a regular basis before stepping into the first team.

Actually now I think about it Guehi is an obvious example. There are examples of Premier Legaue players who got loaned out. Chalobah and Connor Gallagher spring to mind. He was also loaned to WBA, signed by Slaven Bilic.Gallagher went clowntown and Swansea before us
As mentioned before, Morgan Rogers was sent out to Lincoln City of League 1, before coming back and then developing into a fine player at Villa. Brennan Johnson was at Forest, I think, when he also went to Lincoln City, where he won several penalties, before going back into the Premier League at Spurs and us.There are examples of Premier Legaue players who got loaned out. Morgan Rogers, Brennan Johnson and Brook Norton-Cuffy were all signed on 'Loan' at Lincoln by Michael Appleton. As mentioned before, Morgan Rogers was sent out to Lincoln City of League 1, before coming back and then developing into a fine player at Villa. Dean Henderson was loaned out a couple of times, including Shrewsbury where he lost in the Checkatrade Cup Final, to Lincoln. Players do sometimes take the route of loans, before finding their place in top divisions. Brook Norton-Cuffy who plays in Seria A for Genoa, and fated for a bright future, also spent time at Lincoln City. Lincoln City are my local team, so that's why I know this stuff. Most loanees from higher clubs disappear into lower leagues and non-league, but some make it.
