We haven’t been discussing whether Brexit was a mistake, or not, which will always be a matter of opinion, but whether it was the referendum that caused it.
You have obviously run out of arguments because it obviously wasn’t the referendum, but Parliament triggering Article 50, which actually led to us leaving. My point has therefore been conclusively made. Parliament always had the control and as our elected representatives the duty to decide. As a body they were always in favour of remaining a member and when it became so clear and obvious that not only had the referendum campaigns been compromised by outside interference, but that the terms negotiated were not what was either promised or expected, they ought to have done their duty, and refused to go ahead.
They didn’t. The Tories bottled it because of the fear of the backlash on them from Farage. Now look where that has left them, and us.
This was a complete failure of our political system which history will doubtless be scathing about. Cameron and Johnson will have their names etched in infamy.
