Romaine Esse

Is Esse a better option than Sarr, Johnson, Pino and potentially Guessand for next season?
That's four ahead of him and then there's mystery man Franca.
I think it's more likely that Esse gets another loan and becomes another JRS.
Or he does well at Coventry who get promoted and then make a good offer for him.

i think esse will turn out to be a really top striker he is only young but his close ball control is top quality for player of his age 🙂lets hope the mad austrian has not turned him against us 😡
The issue of mad is certainly up for debate. Not in a horrible way but it seems that his head injury has created a trait that in the medium to long term creates issues. He doesn’t seem to realise when it ain’t working change it. Whether without the injury this was his MO I don’t know but three clubs now he has taken the same direction and it ends badly. Or seems to. Will always keep the FA cup close to my heart and thank him but we have to look forwards. Our next 2 games will show us if he has the players on side and if lessons have been learnt.

I thought Franca had gone gone. Turns out it's a loan. I think Esse and Francs will both be like JRS - very good, but Championship good. Seems to get booked needlessly. If he was 17- 18 then maybe - but he's 21 in May. I think he might just fall short.

If they are Championship good they could be useful next season then

i think Esse is a lot better than people think, IMO, Semenyo is 26, i see a lot of him in Esse when he was younger, but left footed, he is a maverick so is Cherki but they both get in Peps team

our next two games will show if he is the greatest manager we have ever had ,i really do not want us to go down 😢 but i can not see where our next points are coming from

Romain was really poor on saturday. Granted he was OOP it was still not good enough. He still needs to learn when to do the tricks and flicks at opportune times
Glad to see that you now understand what I was saying , he still has time to learn , long as Lampard doesn't come frustrated with him and stops playing him , then end up 2nd or 3rd tier player , like a lot of kids if he is lucky

Still think theres a player there and he obviously has the ability to affect games single handedly but when the tricks dont come off fans start to become frustrated. Near the end of the game on Saturday coventry were chasing a goal and he does a backheel that goes out of play. Fans got on his back and he was taken off subsequently a couple minutes after. Hope Frank can try to guide him and not just give up on him like you said.

After the recent signings he is invisible so many wingers in front of him.
I dont think so. On the basis of this system there needs to be a creative 10 and a more "play finisher" 10 (doesnt really contribute to build up and wants to score). Currently the only player in that mold of the creative 10 is Pino and the play finisher 10s are Sarr, Guessand and Johnson. Naturally Esse would be more of what you would say is a creative 10 so only Pino is in front of him. Nketiah doesnt fit either of these archetypes due to his poor pace and ball carrying.

Agree to disagree?

The issue is that in one of his earlier games he did an unexpected play that completely bamboozled the defenders and put a teammate through on goal with a great - not taken - chance of scoring. Not sure why it is fine for Wharton having a low pass completion because the ones that get through are so effective but Esse gets stick for a similar approach

Hopefully we can sell him for a decent fee and invest in Guessand. As much as I love Wharton I’d sell him as well if someone like United is stupid enough to waste 80m on somebody who can’t shoot never mind score.

TBH I would as well because at our current level some of our players are not up at his level. If he went to a bigger club like MG I would be ok he learned his trade with us. There are decent midfielders for a lower cost. If DF came back he would find one.

Esse is SO far off the pace it’s untrue. From everything I’ve seen of him, at Palace and on loan at Coventry, there is nothing to suggest he will have an impact at anything above Championship level and even then only fleetingly. Disappointing as he cost us a lot of money and I had hoped he was the real deal.

He scored at the den for Blackburn when millwall f*ck*d up their play off chances on the final day a few seasons ago!!

What game was that , Wharton is better at tackling (yes I know gets booked ) makes himself available in space all the time , Esse would be static and not find space , 1 pass doesn't mean he is the next Eze , there's a 1000 kids out there that can do it , but not often in games constantly , its all about learning , he would be luxary and fans would turn on him very quickly if he kept giving the ball away or moving to receive , no good for a kid ,,

Wow.

Wharton is a generational talent in the making. If you cant see that, well, I feel sorry for you.
