Dwight McNeil

There’s a very powerful message on social media by his wife about the failure of this transfer and the impact on her husband’s emotional health. She is quite critical of the way the football business treats players and thinks it’s acceptable to do so because they get well paid.
I think what comes through is the way these last minute deals mess with peoples lives when they collapse and how clubs cover their a*ses by blaming the other side or saying nothing. She says that McNeil was left in tears with no one telling him why the deal wasn’t completed. That’s unacceptable. This “window “ nonsense doesn’t help but clubs need to act more responsibly. Our Director of Football hasn’t covered himself in glory with this window and I suspect his days are numbered.
I don’t necessarily blame Parish but as Chairman he should apologise to this young man on behalf of the club and make a statement.
Could you re post it on here at all? Or let us know what his wifes Instagram or X page is ? Would be quite interesting to see.

I see a self proclaimed bet wetter has appeared then. Because being the only chairman to ever keep us in the premier League for more than 1 season let alone 12/13 seasons is so much of a f*** up

Winning our 1st ever trophies last season is a f*** up.

On the edge of building a new stand is such a f*** up.

This is Palace's most successful period in its history..... If you're still unhappy then when will you be happy? Only fickle people would see the past 2 or 3 chairman's and still be unhappy with how things are going currently. Yes hes not perfect but no chairman is. Its not easy to just become the next Aston Villa simply because we won an FA cup and finished 12th. We are STILL just Crystal palace. 1 successful season doesn't suddenly make good managers and good players want to stay here instead of leaving for bigger and better things.

Glasner, Olise, Geuhi, Eze, Mateta have all left or leaving on their own accord. We simply couldn't keep them. So what do you want Parish to do ? Wave his wand and make them change their minds? No he cannot do that. So what you're currently seeing is the result of that. Poor performances, A manager thats possibly lost the dressing room and no squad depth because why would you give a manager a tonne of money when he wont sign a new contract?

The players were buying now is to just keep afloat and give the next manager something to build with. Things may get better.... Things may get worse. Its how it is supporting Crystal Palace. If it's not for you then maybe go and support Liverpool or Man city because apparently things are loads better up there..... Until you ask their fans of which you realise they're in a car crash too.
i get your view and agree with much of it, however, when you compare us to say Bournemouth we appear all over the place.

They lost 3 of their 4 regular defenders last summer and replaced them quickly. The season before they did likewise with their striker.

Last summer they bought a young up and coming striker for c£10m and are slowly integrating him this season and he is already scoring (scored twice v us) .

Only a couple of weeks ago they sold their best player to Man City yet scored 3 against Liverpool a week or so later.

Palace lose a couple of regulars (Guehi, who we knew would move for the last 2 seasons and Sarr to the Afcon which again we've known about for ages) and we seem to fall apart almost immediately.
The lack of goals and chances and general lack of passing and creativity in the last month is so reminiscence of Roy and Vieira at their worst.

As is always the case, not just at palace but everywhere, it's impossible to know from the outside what has happened to undermine this deal.

The nature of deadline day seems to be that often a player who wasn't available the day before suddenly becomes so, as his club have signed a player who himself wasn't expecting to move the day before, and so on. A last minute chain reaction.

I note that Everton signed the young winger George from Chelsea a couple of hours before the O'Neil deal was first reported. It seems plausible that only once that deal was done would O'Neil then be made available. Its easy to see how there might not be time enough time for us to sign the player, who must do a medical etc.

It's also easy to see how clubs make rushed decisions. They might have had months to prepare for the window, but they don't know who will be available and at what price until there are moments to spare.

Not all deals are like that, of course, but plainly plenty are. It all seems the consequence of the window system. It almost compels clubs to buy, simply because they won't get another chance, which in turn compels them to sell, all against the clock.

Professional footballers are apparently used to having a bag packed at this time of year, but Christ knows it can't be easy when you've got a wife and kids settled in a local area, and as far as you know, a contract of employment for the next couple of years at a place of work that hasn't indicated any dissatisfaction with you. Then, you're suddenly told that you should live and work at the other end of the country, and to have only moments to decide, and pressure on you from both clubs....

In the world football, has moved to, I would seriously question my agent if i were him. He should have been right on this.

As football has moved into this multi million pound global arena, the fans are frozen out of the whole financial side of the sport and their club. Very few clubs, if any, share exactly what is going on with their shareholders and their role re finance. This obviously trickles down from buying the club to transfers, fees etc.
It seems even players are in the dark to a certain extent.
Before money became such a big part of football, we would get the results at 5pm on a Saturday afternoon, then more details of the game in a newspaper article the next day. It was why live games played such a big part of it.
Nowadays, you can follow all the action and pre game info on your phone even watching the game.
But when it comes to transfers, clubs go shtuum. We never hear anything from the club on injury detail, reasons players are moving on etc. etc. Not just Palace. Seem to be the way of most clubs.
At the end of the day, as fans we are expected to follow the game and action but not be kept informed about anything else.....except of course spending more and more money on the game/club.
Football is now Moneyball which in reality is a few billionaires/companies/countries having some fun investing in it, and the fans are the tail end Charlies. They can take it or leave it, their choice.

It’s a disgrace. Who in their right mind seals a permanent 20 million deal, then turns around and decides on a loan deal with obligation to buy after everything goes smoothly?

I feel bad for McNeil. The board needs to issue to an apology.
I dont feel sorry for Dwight or his GF. If he wanted to move he should have put in a transfer request at the start on January. Players dont do that now to avoid losing their contract bonuses. Instead agents wheel and deal to get the most cash. If he was desperate to play he could have taken a wage cut or something else to help the move happen earlier. He is a milionaire pro footballer who employs an agent trying to get his max commission who could have made the process quicker. I dont shed any tears for him or his missues.

What are you talking about! A disgrace? Apology? It’s a transfer merry go round. We wanted Mateta gone, his fee and wages to fund others. Milan pulled out late, couldn’t get another club to take him so we still have him. Whether he plays or not we don’t get a fee till he goes and we are paying his wages in the meantime. Great the club bought JSL without selling JP but to commit to McNeil means more wages even if it’s a loan to buy. We are living within the FFP rules, and are surviving. We get to live another day. We are not a home for disaffected players who can’t get in their current teams 1st 11 even if their missus wants a move to the smoke.
