Oh so it’s the next guy that will play six wingers 😄maybe they know who the next manager is and they fit in with his system.

Absolutely. There have been games and opposition that have been crying out for a different set up however we have stuck with the same system as you say, despite injuries to key players who formed part of the regular 5-2-2-1 or 3-4-3 or whatever you want to call it.Honestly the more Glasner press conferences I see the less consistent they become. Loves 4–4-2, didn’t play it when we played smaller teams set up to defend and when we lost one of our front three and our right wing back.
He has started with 3-4-2-1 in his last 174 games, his pants must be red hotAnd yet he said only last year that 442 is his favourite system.

To be fair to him, he says he's played many systems but picks the ne that he believes best suits the players he has.
Not surprising really as he's not done enough to get into their team. I am at least more comfortable that it's a try before you buy deal. Two things though, I hope the 'obligation threshold' is high so that we can take a proper look at him before deciding if we want him permanently. Secondly I'm a bit disappointed we don't seem to have negotiated a lower fee for him, with a 2m loan fee + 28m option to buy Villa basically recoup exactly what they paid for him despite the fact he's basically failed there.Basically zero Villa comments i've read are complimentary about this guy...

He reverted to 442 against Macclesfield after they scored, and that went well....Not under Glasner we can’t and basically we only have 3 experienced CHs and one of them has hardly played since he arrived.

I would still live with those 6 options until the summer. Not getting relegated, 10 points from 15 games will see us safe, got bottom 3 in next 4 games. Too late and expensive to find a decent replacement CB last minute. Summer rebuild under new manager and go again. One is returning from long term injury,
One is a Full-back
One is a midfielder
and one is only 19 and has been found wanting as he has had to be played before he is ready.

I wondered the same but Emery sounded fairly convinced Guessand was going in his post match interview last night. Referenced that Watkins only 'felt' something in his hamstring and that they've brought in Abraham so he can't give Guessand the game time he wants.Oh oh! Watkins is injured. Villa may pull out of a Guessand move. We’ll see soon enough.

I'd stay hidden till the summer window if I was you Dazza.
Also feels like every "Done Deal" you write gives any deal the kiss of death.
I for one am hugely grateful for Dazza's kiss of death 'Done Deal' yesterday on the Strand-Larsen transfer. The thought of us spending 50m on a non-goalscoring centre forward made me feel sick. His done deals have sunk more transfers than Uncle Albert sunk ships.

4 and a half centre backs when we play a back 3 and have just lost one of the best centre backs in Europe is not good enough if we want to be competitive in this league. Richards and LaCroix are more than capable, good and reliable enough but Riad is an injury risk, Canvot is error prone and whilst Lerma is great as a fill-in, he can't be our go to CB. Clyne did well for us in that position 2 years ago, but he would be the very last resort for me to go in at CB.We have Richards, Lacrouix, Riad, Canvot, Lerma and Clyne if necessary. We can also play 442 if desparate.

A bit too late to be competitive this season in a meaningful way. We'll scrape through to the end of the season and we'll have the whole of the Summer window to look for a decent CB if the new manager plays a system that warrants us buying a ready made one.4 and a half centre backs when we play a back 3 and have just lost one of the best centre backs in Europe is not good enough if we want to be competitive in this league.
