Unfortunately for Canvot it seems whenever he makes a mistake it gets punished. Other senior defenders have made numerous mistakes this season (including Guehi) but have gotten away with it. If he can cut out the mistakes, then he has all the attributes to be a top defender, but can we risk giving him that time at the business end of the season? We could move to a back four, but we currently have three fit central midfielders, one of whom struggles to last 90 minutes, so we'd have to sign another central midfielder, or we'd have no options from the bench. A back four would also push Munoz back, who showed yesterday how much we've missed him from an attacking perspective. Currently (as embarrassing as it is) Mitchell is also probably our biggest threat on the left.
Ludicrously, our squad is weaker now that it was at the start of the window and there are not many rumours that things are going to improve. Next weekend we will have to play Lerma in midfield due to Wharton's suspension, which means either Canvot continues at the back, Riad is risked, or maybe Clyne returns. Hopefully, that thought will at least energise the board to actually sign a Guehi replacement (even if it's just a loan).
