Crystal Palace vs Chelsea match thread

Parish has faults but 13 years in the premier league isn't to be sniffed at. If we want it to continue Glasner needs to go now, he picks the team and the tactics to fit players at hand, unfortunately he puts square pegs in rounds holes!!
Yet Parish has to partly own that we are two more losses away from relegation fight - just what the fans asked for

Parish has done great BUT he’s pushing it to close to the wrong wire - it was season to crack on not lose the plot !

Parish appointed the Director of Football..?? So it's all on Parish..??!!
Our DOF is Matt Hobbs, who held the post of Chief Scout and Sporting Director at Wolves from December 2018 to September last year. In that time Wolves have gradually slipped down the table and he left during their awful long winless run.

This should have been a red flag to the board before they brought him in.

It's a cruel game at times. Thought today was a very harsh result, yet at the same time it's worrying that we keep finding different ways to throw away games.

Mateta's miss in the first 10 minutes and his loss of possession for their second goal was criminal.

Canvot making a huge mistake for their first goal, playing Pedro on for the second and conceding a penalty for an 'accidental' handball is a harsh day for the poor lad.

Wish VAR had spent as much time checking Neto's attempted stamp on Sarr as it did for the penalty, obviously they wave away a penalty when the ball hits Chalobahs outstretched hand, Caicedo gets let off with a foul when on a yellow, Wharton (very foolishly) then does get a second yellow.

All in all a very frustrating afternoon. I'll try to end with a couple of positives though...

I did like our show of fight at the end when we could have completely capitulated.

Although a small sample size, I thought Riad looked promising in his cameo.

We need to lift this dark cloud sharpish before we're truly in trouble. Massive next 4 games (plus two Conference League games).

Actually he bought the players the Wolves board kept selling and not replacing!

We've now become the whipping boys of the Prem........ just a shambles.

OG has to go now, there is no other option. You don't lose 11 on the spin and keep you job.

All the Press conference hullabaloo is standing in the way of the obvious.

Can't cope watching us v Forest next week if nothing changes.

We'll definitley lose in Bosnia as things stand too..........

When I saw Canvot was starting I knew he would be our undoing. He is not ready.
Hughes should have started with Lerma at centre half. Bizarre decision.

I thought we'd lose, but Wharton missing the next game is the biggest loss.

We are predictable up front. Johnson has done nothing. Pino should start with Sarr and Mateta. Johnson is cover for Sarr.
Mateta is not playing well. We need a new signing up front and one that is better than Nketiah or Johnson. £60 milllon for those two? Why?

The only positive is that we have Sarr, Riad and Munoz back. Riad is a quality defender that should definitely start ahead of Canvot when fully fit.

Steve needs to spend now because relegation is now a real possibility.

Yet, none of which was discussed on Sky

We are not that bad a team and I thought we were on top of Chelsea up until the second goal but, after that, we let our frustrations get the better of us which for me is on Glasner who, has set the wrong example to the players.
Too many excuses lately, need to work harder and our form will eventually change.

I notice Parish left his seat in the second half and wonder if he is about to discuss with his manager what the blazes is going on.

There were a few positives. The introduction of Riad was promising he looks fit and skilful and will make a short-term replacement for Guehi. When Sarr and Munoz get up to speed we should start getting goals but sadly Mateta is a hindrance and we should sell now and not over-price him.

Henderson was to blame for the penalty, can't blame Canvot. I am a Pinot admirer but his habit of overhitting free kicks is worrying.

If we don't pull ourselves together and lose the next 3 games we could be in trouble. Goodness knows how we'll survive the Conference play-offs which we needn't have had to play if the manager had fielded a full team against the Finns.

What’s clear today and has been clear for some time now is the current system doesn’t work. Teams have well and truly worked OG out. They now just play in behind our non existent midfield, run into the space vacated by the wing backs and get it into the box quickly negating the back three and exposing Henderson’s weakness on crosses.

We clearly need a new manager and I would go back to basics with 4-4-1-1.

Back four of Munoz, Lacroix, Richards, Mitchell

Midfield of Sarr, Hughes, Lerma, Johnson

Pino as number ten

JPM up front as there’s nobody else.

Might not be a team for the purists but we need to go back to basics of competing, winning tackles, playing with physicality and using pace. I’d go much more direct, drop Wharton as he’s playing poorly and is lightweight and compete much more in midfield.

Pino just isnt the right player for this system, people expecting like for like ability wise isnt how it works though. We buy to sell as do many clubs of our size.

OG is fully responsible for refusing to change system when Munoz was injured, almost just to prove a point.
Sorry but the only person responsible is Parish and his ongoing lack of shrewd investment from sell on revenue in the squad. We are in trouble because we do not have quality in numbers for an EPL or a Euro campaign and we are in the position we are in because of Parish and his concern for his own celebrity ego rather than the job that matters.

Don't know why your blaming Glasner - this is all on Parish..!!

Yes get a new man in - but that man needs to be replace Parish - he has single handedly destroyed everything we achieved last year..!!
No it's not. We've spent (for us) a lot of money in this and the Summer window. The problem is the quality of players we've bought together with Glasner's reluctance to use the whole of his squad thereby leading to bad injuries to key players. Glasner's inability to have a plan B when it was clear that his plan A wasn't working with what was left of the squad didn 't help either

Rubbish!

We’ve not won in 12. Have only scored four times in that run and lost to Macclesfield. We are a bad team.

I'm not sure hobbs has had a lot to do with recruitment of the current team and our bad run as he's only been here since oct/nov and we've only signed johnson since then.

Unless you are suggesting he's a jonah and brings bad luck everywhere he goes.

Steve Parish, with a red and blue hard hat on, and high vis jacket glowing resplendently in the July afternoon sunshine, takes a trowel in one hand and a brick in the other, dabs some cement on the brick, and lays the first brick of the new stand.
"This brick marks a new beginning for Crystal Palace FC. A new venture in a different division. We will have 34,000 fans watching Championship football again. We are back!", announces Steve totally straight faced. A few onlookers clap politely.
