The aims being what? To stop the perceived threat of communist domination SE Asia? If you read up on Ho Chi Minh, he was a nationalist who simply wanted the French gone as colonial masters. He only turned to the Communists in full when it became clear post war the Allies would give Indo China back to France.

Ho Chi Minh rescued allied pilots and kept them out of the hands of the Japanese.

The way to stop the Domino Theory was to allow independence to the countries considered at risk.

I totally disagree with the significant deployment of British soldiers to Indonesia post Japanese surrender.

He had some good ideas but was not perfect, as no one is. JFK was similarly morally bankrupt. We have a habit of putting very flawed historical figures in some kind of " no criticism allowed " cabinets.

At the end of the day the judgement should be are we in a better place today because of their contributions.

I would say I agree with your viewpoint.

There is definitely truth about King that isn't highlighted in the mainstream for political and cultural reasons. Some of it is dark, like the rape rumour and should be verified or shown to be false....but as we know his image is protected and is its own industry.

However, it's also true that every political leader is flawed, as are all humans.
