I suppose you could argue that it's a good deal for some people - I'd say include the US in that. But it's not a good deal for the UK. Crap negotiating. Britain paid for someone else to have it. Perhaps a radical idea would be to charge the country that wants it a few billion or just say no. Not pay out and also give. I'm pretty sure Trump wouldn't be taking a deal like that. In that regard, he can berate Starmer. Also Britain has responsibility for all refugees that turn up there and has to pay for them. That doesn't seem like a good deal. It sounds like a very bad deal. Maybe I'm missing some wonderful benefit but I fail to see it.
I guess Starmer could explain why it's actually a good deal.

There are strategic advantages to allowing the US to run Greenland, not to mention a substantial financial reward for Denmark. Trump might have his eye on minerals or future real estate, but that is beside the point. What has Denmark done with Greenland? It doesn't even govern it.

Now, how the people living there feel about it is another question. How do they feel? I don't know.
I'm sure they could be incentivised or persuaded that US control might be advantageous. I doubt that it would actually affect them day to day. Maybe a referendum is in order.

Why is Europe so against this? Is it Trump? Is it ego? Is it politics? Is it about self determination? It can't be about security.

Are European leaders interested in have a civilised discussion, or do they just want to puff out their chests and rally against their political opponent?

The content of the British governments deal with Mauritius , can be the subject of debate. What is held in international law is the sovereignty of the Chagos islands is with Mauritius. In international law we can only have a negotiated presence there.
Well if Donald, Putin, are to go by, international law counts for next to nothing any more , Donald is waking countries around us to that as a fact .
Early in 2025 Trump pretended international law mattered. Early in 2026 he very clearly says it really doesn’t.

The price is losing our national soul lock stock and barrel to the USA, just us every other country in NATO. It’s only sudden because it had to be considered unthinkable that the leading country in NATO would make this kind of demand on its allies trying to ride rough shod over the rights of a NATO member, we all including the US should defend not attack as Trump threatens .
Biden, would not have gone about it this way, the US can expand their presence in Greenland anyway.
