Trump ridicules Starmer over Diego Garcia deal .

Trump is fine with Starmers Chagos deal. Truth or lie.?
Trump thinks Starmers Chagos deal is a disaster . Truth or lie.?
Someone has lied in this and it doesn’t look like it was Starmer.
I suppose you could argue that it's a good deal for some people - I'd say include the US in that. But it's not a good deal for the UK. Crap negotiating. Britain paid for someone else to have it. Perhaps a radical idea would be to charge the country that wants it a few billion or just say no. Not pay out and also give. I'm pretty sure Trump wouldn't be taking a deal like that. In that regard, he can berate Starmer. Also Britain has responsibility for all refugees that turn up there and has to pay for them. That doesn't seem like a good deal. It sounds like a very bad deal. Maybe I'm missing some wonderful benefit but I fail to see it.
I guess Starmer could explain why it's actually a good deal.

Trump is right over Chagos but it's painfully obvious that he's just doing this as pressure.

It's very unstable....hearing he's threatening all sorts on tariffs.....which is going to extremes.

Tearing up relationships for advantages because politics and its figures are time limited and transitory but ownership of a country like Greenland wouldn't be.

No, on this issue Europe should say a line has been crossed.
I wouldn't trust Trump to be right even he was telling the time.

Think this deal flew under most of the UK electorate noses at the time it was agreed , Trump has woken the UK public up to the detail , consequences and costs of the deal.
It has little going for it from what I’ve read online .

This explains a lot.

Flippin' heck!

I've already posted twice the official US response to when the deal was announced in May 25.

Have you not read it (again!)?

Nobody's going to tell me that they didn't read 'the detail' before they put out that response.

For goodness sake.

There could be a very big price to pay for our sudden concern over a sparsely populated bit of wasteland.

I wonder if we would be so angry if it had been Biden?

We have been paying big prices for stupid decisions for the last few years and I've been complaining about them on here.

Most just aren't that bothered and are quite prepared to nod along with and pay for whatever our masters deem worthy of their propaganda.

Regardless of bad outcomes.

This particularly policy I actually agree with them on.

So feck it, as everyone double downs on everything let's join in on the party.

No one cares about anything anymore until they themselves personally are sent into poverty by it.

'Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.'

What troubles me is that Trump is our ally, as far as America has been since WW1. We are not talking about Russia or China here.
There are strategic advantages to allowing the US to run Greenland, not to mention a substantial financial reward for Denmark. Trump might have his eye on minerals or future real estate, but that is beside the point. What has Denmark done with Greenland? It doesn't even govern it.

Now, how the people living there feel about it is another question. How do they feel? I don't know.
I'm sure they could be incentivised or persuaded that US control might be advantageous. I doubt that it would actually affect them day to day. Maybe a referendum is in order.

Why is Europe so against this? Is it Trump? Is it ego? Is it politics? Is it about self determination? It can't be about security.

Are European leaders interested in have a civilised discussion, or do they just want to puff out their chests and rally against their political opponent?

None of this should be happening in public. Both sides are posturing.

The content of the British governments deal with Mauritius , can be the subject of debate. What is held in international law is the sovereignty of the Chagos islands is with Mauritius. In international law we can only have a negotiated presence there.
Well if Donald, Putin, are to go by, international law counts for next to nothing any more , Donald is waking countries around us to that as a fact .
Early in 2025 Trump pretended international law mattered. Early in 2026 he very clearly says it really doesn’t.

I don't think Trump 2.0 has foreign allies, in his mind I think it's all about winning, and sucking up to powerful people like generals/corporate/intel with post presidency in mind.

Personally think he's gone a bit batty.

As for Greenland, for me it's about Denmark being a Nato country......added to the point of self determination for Greenland. From what I hear they don't want to be American and just want to be left alone.

America already have a good deal in relation to Greenland and can put as many troops as they like on there......This is about stealing mineral wealth.

Enjoy the absurdity of it all.

“Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns!” he said.
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

What have Denmark done about those minerals? They could get rich by doing nothing if they sell.

Maybe this is a battle that isn't worth fighting with our most powerful ally. We have bigger enemies within.

What's it to us? Denmark can do whatever they like as far as I'm concerned. They seem a decent people....actually too nice for their own good.

Geopolitically I'd agree with you.....What happens in Greenland isn't that important to us.

However, we aren't actually going to send troops to Greenland to fight with the Americans......Trump might talk smack but.....like I've said previously.....the idea of the US attacking Greenland is so mad that I honestly think his presidency would fall.

So this is about what do we back.

Well, Greenland is defenceless, has done nothing to provoke this......Are we really going to clap along and allow this without any pushback? On this score I think the liberals have a point.

A lot on the right aren't happy with it either.

The enemies within will be there regardless......Trump is more than happy with Starmer if he does his bidding.....Trump doesn't care that much about the right wing abroad, only what advantages him.

The price is losing our national soul lock stock and barrel to the USA, just us every other country in NATO. It’s only sudden because it had to be considered unthinkable that the leading country in NATO would make this kind of demand on its allies trying to ride rough shod over the rights of a NATO member, we all including the US should defend not attack as Trump threatens .
Biden, would not have gone about it this way, the US can expand their presence in Greenland anyway.

I would be flabbergasted if that happened. This is all about posturing and negotiating.

Sure Trump cares about Trump, but he isn't America and the deep state will be watching him and deciding if he is still acting in the best interests of the country. If he invaded Greenland and remained in power, or alive, then we know that we don't just have Trump to worry about.

One thing is for sure. Our best interests are not served by falling out with the biggest enemy of our enemies.
