Trump ridicules Starmer over Diego Garcia deal .

I seem to recall that some on the left wanted to give the Falklands to Argentina, even though they had no genuine claim on it. We gave Hong Kong to our enemies, and now this Labour government are having to pay to hand over the strategically important Chagos Islands.

The noisy objection to this situation is all about Trump bad. It's the left trying to seek advantage as usual. Why is Britain opposing America on this? They are our strongest ally, without whom we couldn't defend ourselves from Russia in a conventional war.
Denmark has sovereignty over Greenland, but it doesn't govern it. It is self governed. One of its allies wants to buy it for strategic reasons. The massively powerful ally that supports Europe in the event of war.
Leftist Europe doesn't seem to understand that without the good old USA, we would be exposed to all kinds of military threats.

So Trump comes in like a crazy man, making a lot of noise. That is an age old negotiation tactic. At some point, some underlings will make excuses for him and dial it back. Then we will have a negotiation in which only one side has the real power.

Trump will get Greenland and Europe should celebrate. They won't, because it's Trump, and Trump opposes their globalist, destructive nightmare that they are laying on their populations.
One day, Europe might be entirely Islamic and become the enemy of America. It's entirely possible with the current rates of Muslim immigration.

You'd better think about whose side you're on.

This is utterly insane.

I get what you are saying but to compare the current situation to others is as we stand right now not appropriate.

Ok of it was a case of negotiations then maybe, but (and you may be right time may change this) this is negotiations with the threat of taking it regardless.

It's a bit like trying to barter with the playground bully knowing he will simply punch you and take your pocket money regardless.

Ok maybe it is because it is Trump but he is supposed to be a world leader. Right now I guess we have very few of these as we seem to have the spineless and the lunatic

Actions carried out by Trump will always be criticised by the Left and supported by the Right. If the same actions were carried out by Biden, they would be criticised by the Right and supported by the Left. Objective judgement of the actions is rare.

And then some.
That is reality.

Trump holds the cards. The Trump cards if you like. Europe is beholden to the US, like it or not.
You look at the leaders of Europe and with the exception of Orban, they are all leftist or centrist, clinging on to power using coalitions or dirty tricks, trying to hold back the growing resistance to their suicidal policies.

Trump has lost patience with Europe. They have alienated him with their TDS and he isn't know for his patience.

Exactly right.

Even Gavin newscum who is touted to run in the next election for the Democrats thinks the EU leaders have no backbone:

You can throw Starmer in that group of spineless politicians as well , The silence from him today is telling , Macron who I normally detest has at least fired a few volleys back at Trump today .

That is reality.

Europe holds $8 trillion of US debt and is its biggest creditor. It's not as beholden to the US as you may think.

A united Europe, along with Canada, as Macron's and Carney's speech in Davos today show, have plenty of tools to keep the US in check. Trump's chaotic bully boy tactics will not work with this.

Obviously I'm not a fan of the EU....not even a little bit.

And obviously I think our leaders have made a giant mess over Ukraine and Russia.....lies and money after bad that we can't afford on a war the US state department provoked.

But on the Greenland issue I think it's important there is a united front.

Denmark is a Nato country and they nor Greenland have done nothing to provoke this.

We can't have the US just forcing a country into its empire......Also, while I don't want to sound a bit socialist but the point should also be made that Greenland's people have access to free (well taxpayer funded) healthcare in Greenland, while in the US they would be forced into the private sector against their will.

Indeed, if the US didn't do that then other states could complain that it's a two tier system.

Exactly what the hippie said.

Trump is fine with Starmers Chagos deal. Truth or lie.?
Trump thinks Starmers Chagos deal is a disaster . Truth or lie.?
Someone has lied in this and it doesn’t look like it was Starmer.

I kinda feel because starmer didint back the Greenland plan trump has thrown his toys out of the pram over the chagos deal.

Chagos Archipelago

Press Statement

Marco Rubio, Secretary of State

May 22, 2025

Today, the United States welcomed the historic agreement between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Mauritius on the future of the British Indian Ocean Territory—specifically, the Chagos Archipelago.

We commend both the United Kingdom and Mauritius for their leadership, vision, and commitment to ensure that Diego Garcia remains fully operational for the duration of this agreement. We look forward to working closely with both governments to strengthen our collaboration in support of regional peace and stability.

Following a comprehensive interagency review, the Trump Administration determined that this agreement secures the long-term, stable, and effective operation of the joint U.S.-UK military facility at Diego Garcia. This is a critical asset for regional and global security. President Trump expressed his support for this monumental achievement during his meeting with Prime Minister Starmer at the White House.

This milestone reflects the enduring strength of the U.S.-UK relationship—a relationship that, as demonstrated by the U.S.-UK trade deal announced on May 8, extends far beyond defense to encompass economic growth, innovation, and shared global leadership.
So what's changed?!

The only thing that is becoming clearer from Trumps antics is ,his USA is not a reliable ally, not even a reliable friend . He has designs on not just Greenland ,but also Canada, every one else in what was a western alliance, he can manipulate with trade wars, or the threat of. He puts everyone under pressure except Putin.
Make of that what you will.

Trump is right over Chagos but it's painfully obvious that he's just doing this as pressure.

It's very unstable....hearing he's threatening all sorts on tariffs.....which is going to extremes.

Tearing up relationships for advantages because politics and its figures are time limited and transitory but ownership of a country like Greenland wouldn't be.

No, on this issue Europe should say a line has been crossed.
