Perhaps who we want isn't available till the summer?

Most Clubs have insurance against injuries. That is why it is necessary to have a pre contract medical. Only the biggest/richest can afford to self insure. The policies don’t go on forever so at some stage a decision will have to be made on Doucoure. Conor Wickham was a beneficiary of the policy.

I wonder if Mr Wickham will be invited to open our new rehabilitation centre in Copers Cope road. It would seem most appropriate!

I wonder if it's similar to a normal employment contract where you get 6 months at full pay then 6 months on half pay, then nothing. As you say if he doesn't get back soon a decision will need to be made, like with Nathan Ferguson.

I heard it’s named after him and there is also the “Nathan Ferguson” recovery suite in it along with one of the physio tables being called Franca
 
Although we will all back the team on sunday, as we always do, i feel that if we go a couple of goals down then things may get a little toxic towards glasner.

I won't have any sympathy for him though.

Judging by Sara's appearances at the AFCON, I can't imagine him returning fully match fit. I hope I'm wrong. Munoz had a knee opp. I'm not sure he'll be back anywhere near where stated. I'd be pretty sure he's going to need careful managing. Not thrown straight back in against Chelsea. Although I suspect he's not ready anyway.
Also Riad is going to need time to get up to speed. I was pretty annoyed he didn't get time in our last game as it's first team football he's going to need to rehabilitate and get back match fitness. Or else just get injured again - which is our modus operandi quite frankly.

Surely he’s pointing out what most of you have been saying recently.
That you can’t go into Premier League games with weak benches comprising 2 goalkeepers , untried youngsters,no proven forwards, inexperienced players ( a less then fully fit Clyne is no game changer).
We also know he’s been telling the board this for months.

What is new is his statement that it’s the feeling in ‘the dressing room’ too i.e with the players so he’s reflecting their views.
Yes, he seemed emotional, but it’s often that point that truth emerges.
There’s obviously been a feeling of frustration there which has been building up for months.

In my view many are annoyed because he won’t sign a new contract with the club, which he is perfectly entitled to do.
And in the cold light of day it’s the right decision when the objectives of the manager and the ownership are so unaligned.

I often find myself agreeing with you but not on this occasion.

Let’s go back to the beginning of September after the closure of the Summer transfer window..
Our squad then was:

  • Riad (injured but expected back by November as I recall)
Wing Backs:
  • Munoz,
  • Kporha
  • Cardines
  • Clyne
  • Mitchell
  • Sosa
Midfielders:
  • Wharton,
  • Kamada,
  • Hughes,
  • Lerma,
  • Doucoure (injured but expected back by Christmas)
  • Devenny
No 10s:
  • Sarr
  • Pino
  • Esse
  • Uche
Strikers:
  • Mateta
  • Nketiah
Yes, Cardines and Kporha are from the Academy but Glasner was happy to use them both as back-up to Munoz until they both got what have become long-term injuries.

That’s still a squad of 26 with all bases (on paper at least) reasonably covered.

Glasner has stated:
  • he likes to work with a small squad (and yet moaned that not enough business was done in the Summer).
  • He will only play players if they will help the team
  • He wants to play his strongest XI in every game.
And, sadly, that combination has led to our current mess. Yes, there were arrivals very late in the window but, apart from Pino, he wasn’t prepared to give the others or other fringe players sufficient game time to adjust to the PL. Instead, he ran his 1st XI into the ground by playing them at every opportunity. IMO, he was going for glory in the knowledge he wouldn’t be here next year and it’s all back-fired on him because the injuries have turned out worse than he thought.

Sorry, but IMO this mess is more on Glasner than on the Board.

already, i am feeling the problem is not Glasner. Our behaviours in the transfer market are not good. Selling the best players and not really having a good contingency plan.
Certainly we are a selling club. Therefore it should be ok to sell a World Class player and replace with a fella who is, say 75% as talented. But we are not doing that.
Also our injury crisis is no surprise when you are playing in 4 competitions.

The Boardroom is the problem, not Glasner. Losing Guehi without any proper replacement.

I agree with you in terms of why we're in this mess, albeit I don't think Glasner has conducted himself in the best way of late. In the summer, most fans could see we were short on quality and numbers, so I'm sure those within the club knew it too. We had fewer players than last season but more games to contend with. What was the thinking? We've now let two first-team players go this window and only brought one player in, so we're even shorter on numbers. The challenge is now to try and get a couple more bodies through the door just to tread water at a time when everyone knows we're in a mini crisis and the manager is leaving.

Just as when Olise and Eze left you cannot just replace Guehi. You must adjust to the loss. We have cover and with Riad now able to contribute too I doubt, in the current circumstances, whether we now sign another centre half.

The problem is definitely Glasner and his stubborn refusal to adapt his playing style to cope with adversity, combined with a lack of awareness of the financial realities and a refusal to accept any responsibility for the situation. He is obviously a very effective coach but has proved himself to be a poor manager.

I raised this issue too, but the rumours persist. If he did join them then it points towards the knee injury being an excuse. If the deal doesn't happen then hopefully it motivates him to improve his form. I love the guy, I can't lie.
