Parish Out

The way I see it, Parish has been nothing if not loyal to Palace as a club. As chairman of a Premier League club I would want more than £2 million a year. He could get more than that if he concentrated on his old business before he bought the club. Managers come and go, players come and go he has stabilised the club and overseen our most successful period ever.

Now don’t get me wrong, I think he has been a dick with the transfer policy and its f***ing annoying that he moves at snails pace on everything but nobody can argue he doesn’t have Palace in his heart and its best interests in mind at all times.

We are ahead of schedule in the sense that nobody expected us to win the FA cup when Ollie took over. But the overall plan is surely in place still. Stablise. Slow increments, Stadium, climb a bit each season. Not glamorous but it would explain not spending beyond our means, not backing the manager over the plan and not capitalising on our FA cup win and pushing on.

As for Ollie going. How many people knew who he was before he came to us. I for one knew nothing about him. Right now there is another manager out there of similar station. I would rather that than a Frank or Moyes or Dych etc.

f***ing frustrating though.

Why is everybody on the back of Parish..Glasner stated that HE hasn’t spoken to any other clubs but I bet his representitives have….interesting he is favourite to take over Man Utd in the summer.
There is no loyalty in football, players all chase the money Guehi,Olise,Eze and probably Matata and Munoz will all be richer because they have been successful at Palace but will all move on to earn as much as they can.
On the otherhand Steve Parish has been loyal, committed and proven to have done the best he can to build us into the football club we now have.He is a mutlmillionaire who doesn't need to work but he continues to try and improve all aspects of the club….
Glasner is a journeyman…3 years max at a club ..lets hope that our chairman has an even better Manager coming who has already sanctioned the Johnson transfer and others to come.
can you imagine having a chairman like Marinakis…be carefull what you wish for.!

Agree 👍

Which means he can never be criticised for making mistakes!
He can but let’s keep it in perspective.
You can argue that he didn’t raid the petty cash tin for transfers during the summer but some other chairman instigated a huge delay in us finding out which European competition we would be playing in. Consequently the maths couldn’t confirm how much we could get/possibly get from our involvement Steve couldn’t gamble and potentially end up on the wrong side of the financial rules. Blame the fat Greek.

We finished third in 1991 and would have won the title the following year if Ron Noades had invested in the squad. Geoff Thomas has even spoken about this. Instead, Noades remained a tightarse, we went into a downward spiral and the chances of winning it are now almost impossible. I fear history is repeating itself.

I think thats old school , I believe we are in a better position . think its more 5 steps forward 2 steps back , look at west ham going in reverse quickly , fans hate the ground and location have no love for the owners at all for sometime . Us on the other hand are not moving but improving our ground slowly but its happening , we get annoyed at times with SP , but like us has seen the club in alot of turmoil in the past and wasnt going to let that happen again under his watch .

The past couple of weeks have been tumultuous and I am sure SP's head is spinning as well - hard to plan for such an ungainly exit from the FA Cup. Its not unravelling, but a couple of continued bad results and the club will look like it is free fall. SP now has his hands full stabilizing the ship internally, and at the end of January we will know if the squad has been strengthened or weakened. I support the sale of Guehi now, especially as our best bets are finishing mid table (Conference looks a long shot as well).

Glasner spoke about "Clarity" in his press conference ..... well its all as clear as mud now! I will be interested in the next MEN in BLAZERS interview SP gives! Hopefully fans get some insights on the shenanigans and what the real plan is. I wouldn't put my money on Glasner being around much longer either.

Except that Steve has known for 3 months.

Steve may have been told in October, but maybe he thought he could talk OG round. Who knows?
What's important is to focus on where we are now. He needs to know very quickly if the squad are still team Ollie. I imagine that's why Paddy's there. OG will still put his heart in it, because any serious fade will affect his next appointment. The risk is players easing up.
In response to the title of the thread - its a no from me.

it is a bit ruff in the waters , but i would be more worried if Spammers was only 3points behind , reckon we could lose our next 5 and still be 6 to 9 points clear , would hope 2 wins in them 5 that way we can start to move forward again , lets hope the players come out fighting , because there still getting wages , still know the drill so cant say oh its glasners fault there not preforming , I didnt like my manager but I still done my job that I was paid for , and that was in both work and football , so deep breath everyone its all hands to the pump COYP

I still look back at that season as one of fine margins: in 1991 we won 20 of the 38 league games. 15 of those 20 wins were by a single goal margin. My father and I had season tickets around that time and I remember vividly how much of a coin flip many of those wins were.

Utlimately, we had a fantastic goalkeeper, plus a tight and a very workmanlike defence and midfield (probably influenced by Wimbledon given some of the first team squad and Wally Downes as coach). The magic at times came from Andy Gray, but it was predominantly Salako, Wright and Bright who were the real difference makers.

The make up of the current team has some similarities but man for man it is stronger now compared to the opposition league teams. I would also claim the forwards we have today are weaker in relative terms than then. So I think we are less susceptible now to the wheels coming off with one (Ian Wright) departure.

That said the game today is more of a squad game. Our current roster looks more like a 1991 roster in terms of numbers and squad depth.

Paris was caught between a rock and a hard place. He knew in October that Glasner was off and I suspect that eventually this leaked to the squad which hasn't helped their form.

So what do you do?

His last club sacked OG because he wouldn't commit to a new deal and they got tired of his games. As always though it's easy to sack someone but who do you replace him with.

I am sure that Parish has already identified his replacement, but if that person is already working you would have to wait until the end of the season or get involved in a tug of war.

Rightly or wrongly Parish has decided to tough it out until the end of the season.

Either decision was a tough call with no easy answer. I suspect the rest of this season will be a right off but OG will not want it to fall completely apart as that will impact his next job.

The old timers amongst us will have to accept the new norm.
Three years for players and managers is almost long term these days.
No more Jim Cannons or Joel Wards.
Long term contracts seem meaningless.
I don’t think I ever saw Ward or Cannon kiss the badge - it wasn’t necessary as they lived their values every day.
I think Guehi may be our longest serving player and even he’s now off!
