Mateta

That seems to be an assumption made because he does not contribute much in other respects, However as I pointed out in another thread
"Since Nketiah joined, he has scored 5 goals from an xG of 7.6 in the league. Over the same time period, Mateta has 21 from 23.7"
pretty unimpressive
Nah not for me...just from what I observe. But it's definitely more to do with the dearth of better options than it is a credit to Eddie. Saying he's the best we've got doesn't require him to be a great finisher, because his competition is pretty woeful. Sarr probably the closest. Good strikers don't miss the absolute sitters that JP's missed with such consistency.

Put it this way...if you delivered 10 balls out in front of JP and Eddie from 10 different angles against a keeper, who would score the most?

19 goals/ 116 games for arsenal.
3/17 in the championship for Leeds.
5/39 for us.
That’s not a £25 million striker.
Over priced/hyped because he was at arsenal and done well in England youth set up.
I have no confidence when he’s through on goal, would rather Sarr get an opportunity than him.

Neither, really. But more than Mateta. That's my point. I think we're agreeing more than we're disagreeing tbh.

Yeah, I’m not disagreeing or looking for a row.
Just gutted that our options are poor atm need the mateta of 6 months ago or similar. Think nketia outlay/wages will end up being similar to Benteke, minus the 15 goal season.

Would love prime Murray/AJ right now

Tell me about it mate! Murray would score a hat full in this team.

it's all very well offloading an out of form striker, and maybe it's right to cash in on Mateta before his value falls dramatically, however we'd need an absolutely proven goalscorer as his replacement. And plenty of clubs have gone shopping for one of them and brought a duff. I'd also try to offload Nketia to one of the newly promoted teams next season and see if we can recoup what we paid. That sort of club always makes daft signings, hoping for a bit of pedigree that never shines through, a bit like we did.

Keep seeing posts such as this one below, with another saying that we've (quite rightly) knocked back a 30M bid from Atalanta, and yet another suggesting Guessand could be the one lined up to replace him.

Interesting though - at what price would you let him go to Utd? got to be north of 50M, and probably north of 70M.

Now, Don't take this the wrong way, I'm a big Mateta fan, but I feel we can get an overly inflated price from those at ManU which could be worth considering, then go off and get Guessand in + 1.

He is a bit too hot 'n cold for a top club.

I can see this happening at the end of the season. We should not consider this in January

Will never detract anything from last season however I'd hardly be upset if this did happen.

If we got some money but more importantly a replacement in, a replacement who at least showed some desire/energy, I'd condone that.

We could sign yet another Donkey but I think JPM's heart looks to have departed already, thus his form has too.

Is this not Uche? Desire and energy appear to be his 2 main strengths. Just needs to add more goals....

no his heart there but the supply isnt also his frustration with a niggly injury he may not be able to workout in the gym as much , see how he is with supply coming from both sides , with mitch and sarr one side and Munoz and Johnson the other

A good point.

I think the combination of (seemingly) carrying a knock and an ask of him to do more without the supply, has made him look quite dejected and dare I say I bit useless too.

I’m not sure what we’ve got to lose by giving Uche a couple of games to see how he does. JP couldn’t score in a brothel at the moment and that along with the dodgy knee suggests a break is warranted. Eddie is recovering from a thigh injury so not ready to step in. That leaves Uche. In his short appearances he has a goal of the month and an assist. Surely it’s a no brainer?

Uche is on loan with obligation to buy after starting 10 games, for 17.5m euros, interestingly he is on loan from Getafe whose manager José Bordalás is strongly linked with us should Glasner go, he has power, strength, height and youth and with the finish with the outside of his boot, some talent, i would give him a run, sell Mateta, we also look like the Sheriff is riding into town.
