FA Cup 3rd Round Macclesfield

I’m sure our players are not exactly enjoying their week and will most definitely be hurting. I know quite often as fans we do wonder how much premier league footballers do care, but this is massive and there’s no hiding from it. I expect Sunderland fans will be the first to remind our team it’s not going to be easy to forget. Our one hope is that we’re going to see a reaction
I am yet to be convinced that we will witness a positive reaction against a Sunderland team unbeaten at home this season.

It's great that a few Palace fans have moved on from this horrible result but I for one still want to be pissed off and be angry at our weak, lily livered players and hope they realise what damage they have done to our club. They will all move on but we, the fans, can't just move on to another club and forget about what happened on Saturday.

I agree. Have there been any actual apologies?

At the start of this season my hope was that Palace would finish in the top half without the usual drama, would enjoy a reasonable first entry into Europe in the Europa League and maybe, just maybe, be good enough to finish higher and get into the Conference League next season. Winning the FA Cup was a once in a lifetime dream and I had no expectation that we might win it again.
After the UEFA decision I thought we might actually win this competition and qualify for the Europa League next year that way. My new season goals were a top half finish, winning the Conference League, and seeing Nottingham Forest relegated (with Wet Spam joining them being an unexpected bonus). While getting beaten at the start of the FA Cup by a non league side is undoubtedly embarrassing, it has eased our fixture list and may ultimately help to achieve all those goals. It’s time to move on and believe that we can still have another memorable season.

I'm afraid I similarly feel uninspired or hopeful of this.
I fully accept that I can be an 'Elijah of doom' on HOL, however others with whom I have engaged in conversation and who are normally infused with positivity share my viewpoint.
We have now gone 9 games without a win in all competitions and that includes of course the debacle at Macclesfield both from a performance and result perspective.
We have scored 2 goals in our last 6 PL games and 1 of those was from the penalty spot.
There are no grounds of optimism leading up to the Sunderland encounter.

I wish I had your optimism. I just see us losing practically every match from now and getting relegated. Present form gives us no chance of winning the Conference. I’m still embarrassed and humiliated by Saturdays performance :-(

A couple of tough games coming up but January ends with 3 new players on board and Sarr, Munoz, and Kamada back. We go on an unbeaten run in February, have a mixed bag of results in March and April and end the season by beating Arses at Selhurst to deny them their league title and condemn Arseteta to the sack.

Sadly I make you right Willo, I said in December it’s going to be a tough January until things get better with the return of our missing players, but I don’t think any of us could’ve predicted it being this bad

I am not as yet a convert to the "It will be alright on the night' club.
Munoz and Kamada might be available for selection but it might take them a few games to fully return to their form of old and of course (God forbid) they could suffer further setbacks.
They will of course be welcome back in the fold but I would urge caution in expecting their return to immediately trigger a revival of our fortunes.
We are in 'Pitchy seas' and the storm might not abate in short order with the return of our players.

Well said. I admire you positivity, but i'm not there yet!

im sticking with what I said just before Jan window get Johnson early thats done , plus 2 more and returns from injury and international duty , then see how we perform we have 2 lge games this month tough yes but lets see how we respond after the disaster game , then I may change my thinking , until then cross your fingers legs anything to have some luck come our way to start with ,

Sunderland have only won 1 lge game since the beginning of dec that was 1-0 v newcastle lost 2,3-0 and drawn the rest so there not setting the world on fire

since december 1st sunderland have got 8pts funny enough so have we

Our present situation with injury’s , and Sarr,s absence isn’t new, we have been here before. For several seasons now our main group of thirteen has been very good but after that the bench has been two goalkeepers and kids mainly.
The difference this year is with the challenge of extra games in Europe, the thirteen should have been turned to sixteen, it wasn’t ,probably for financial reasons. Whatever the reasons nothing changed, even without Europe , if most other seasons are to go by we would be struggling now any way. The Macclesfield, result is an extreme , I prefer to base our form on the Villa, game.

On Monday afternoons I help out at a club for adults with learning disabilities. Yesterday, as I knew I would receive friendly banter from a number of them (Villa, Baggies, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal fans) I decided to turn up in my Palace shirt. They were impressed (I still got the banter) but I thought: "Yes I'm embarrassed by what happened on Saturday but I'm not ashamed - that's for the players and the manager and his team. I don't have to apologize for that performance - they do. The best thing they can do is roll their sleeves up and start putting in performances that show that they do care, starting with Sunderland on Saturday.

Apropos our squad depth, what has not helped has been the fact that some of our signings simply did not deliver as we had hoped : Franca, Ahamada, Ebiowei, Plange.
Some of our more recent players have not impressed EG Sosa, Pino, Esse, Nketiah.
Doucoure who was impressive has of course suffered a long-term injury as has Riad.

I'm in the Buxton office ( hour from Macclesfield) still wearing my Palace Jacket around town -
Defo got some stick in the office & going out for a pint with the boss tonight so that will be another opportunity for him to gloat, he is of course a bloody Leeds fan.

Take advantage of this tonight in Buxton (tap house near the Opera House is a great venue) - there's a great £3 pint offer at Buxton Brewery venues for selected beers (Cavern, Deepdale, Right to Roam, Gatekeeper, Axed) running throughout January 2026 to combat the January blues, available at their Tap House, Trackside, and the Sock and Buskin. It's a limited-time deal to enjoy their local brews at a fantastic price during the winter month.

Thanks for the heads up - Yes we use the tap house often (I like the Cavern) the foods good in the Tap house too -

I think were going to start in the red willow to get some hells lager first tonight.
