Winter Transfer Window 2026

Wow we do have a bit of work to do.
What if The out of Contract Players would prefer to say “ Nah,Thanks but I might seek a better option “

Munoz,JPM have made mention about seeking a a top 6 club

Kamada I feel will not renew if Olise G decides to move on too.

Then Clyney needs a replacement is Chadi going to be ready

Where does Decoure sit contractually & fittness wise ?

Plus numpty Utd make a ridiculous offer for Wharton plus I feel Mitchell might be tapped up too

The situation of have a Fantastic season then a worrying one that follows.

Worryingly there’s not even a sniff of any new signings. Usual wait to end of window and bring in rubbish by the looks of it.
We signed BJ for 35 million last week. Still 3 weeks left. There will be lots of negotiations going on behind the scenes most of which will fail. OG being out of contract makes it much harder too.

The upside of being knocked out of both cups means most weeks now are only 1 game, so time to train and recover ready to push hard at the end of the season priority being the conference cup unless we have a miraculous change of form in the league.

Nothing against Brennan Johnson, who I think will do well for us, but his £30+ million fee made me think what would the recently passed Martin Chivers be worth today?
Reading his obituary I noted that he averaged a goal every 2 games.
He had a shot like a rocket and was quick and powerful as well.as having a subtlety about his game.

He would be worth 0 because he would be unable to play in the modern game.

If you means by the price he was back then you can use a calculator to work it out.

It was easy to score in those days.

Was it? With tackling from behind, rubbish pitches and a real offside rule?
In 1970/71 there were an average 2.36 goals scored per game. In 2023/24 it was 3.28.

Not sure about this. Great players learn to adapt. He certainly couldn't play as he did back then but I feel players like that would still thrive in the modern game.

You don't need to be sure of it it's science.

It is the same going the other way modern player would not handle back then due to the physical side of the game & mentally modern players like to make out they are hard men they are wimps.

The pitches back then was not rubbish again this was standard for the time this is why you can't compare the eras everything is so different and those people was stars of that era which they deserved.

Anyway back to this threads topics looks like another day and we still have yet to do anything this is ridiculous & people wonder why manager moans plus wants out.

Sure but there is still virtually a goal a game more scored now and just because the pitches were standard for the time doesn't mean they were easier to play on.

Some of the pitches resembled ploughed fields with players ankles splattered with mud as they waded through the bog. The balls were also heavier and in bygone days featured prominent leather laces.
Those were the days when men were men and women were glad of it.😛

You needed the build and silky skills of Micky Droy to glide around The Baseball Ground.

I actually did attend our match at the 'Baseball Ground' in the 80s when Mick Droy played for our club.
I believe we were defeated by a John Gregory penalty but the match was several yeas ago accordingly my memory might not be serving me well in this instance.

You are a product of your environment.

Your stat is incorrect as well go and look at top flight football going all the way back into 1800's

Other than break our transfer record signing a player as soon as the window opened, obviously.

It's not incorrect for the season quoted.
I'm talking about players from within living memory who I think would be more easily able to adapt to the modern game than successful managers. Shankly, Nicholson, Clough, etc, would have to totally change their approach with the power the players now have.

Yes the silence is deafening.
