FA Cup 3rd Round Macclesfield

It was a cold day against a well organised fired up team on a crap bobbly bouncy pitch and we couldn’t cope with it. BUT we still had chances and as has been the same for months now, we didn’t look like taking them. I can’t remember a time when I was less confident that we can score.
did we? we usually create a lot but there was a pitiful amount created today - one air shot header and a long rage shot first half, disallowed header and a snap shot from Wharton second half. Very close to diddly squat, but I can see the funny side of this, from glory to abject humiliation - it will act like a kick up the *rse and we'll be flying in February - if you're a Palace fan don't go no alcohol this January.

That's the problem. With all due respect to Macclesfield, we couldn't have imagined an easier opponent. No matter which way we try to spin it, this defeat is excruciating.
This defeat is an absolute disgrace. 'Hang heads in shame' time.
You have let down not only our club but our supporters who have followed Crystal Palace through thick and thin.Shame on you.

I still can’t believe how Glasner selected Richard’s in the middle of the back 3. Surely it was obvious early on that Guehi should be switched there? The team selected was so unbalanced and even more so in the second half. We’ve been disorganised for weeks now. No one looked confident or knew what they were doing. It was a disgraceful performance and probably the most humiliating defeat Palace fans have ever witnessed. I’m not sure how we can turn this around, even with missing players returning?

I wholeheartedly agree from a loyal supporter who has supported our club since the 60s.
Humiliating and totally unacceptable. 😡

Agree, Richards is not good enough for the middle.

This season was supposed to be the one to build on the FA Cup victory, push on in the league and get to the Euro final. We won't get relegated but this shambolic cup performance and recent form shows we are on a downward spiral and the season might well end in an utter disaster. I hope each player has been told in no uncertain terms that they are in the record books for the wrong reasons and deservedly so. This record cup shock might take generations before it's beaten - if ever. 🤬

A number of our players today showed that the National League North is at a higher level than their present pay grade. Uche, Sosa and Pino should be prosecuted under the Trades Description Act for misrepresenting themselves as top flight footballers! They are atrocious, excruciating to watch and should never wear the jersey again. Fair play to John Rooney. He did his homework, organised his team accordingly and deserved the win. Glasner was upstaged and humbled.

Ok. I’ve had a sulk in the shed for a while and as totally sick as I feel- I don’t think it’s time to turn on the players.

I do however think Glasner got it wrong today. Very wrong in fact. But let’s not lose sight of the fact that he has (for the most part) got most things right since his arrival. He has a HUGE job on his hands now to turn this pathetic performance around in the next week.

The players will undoubtedly reflect on a SH1T day at the office and I hope they too feel sick for the next few weeks.
We fans will live with today for ever- every flipping year from now on we’ll hear all about the FA Cup giant killing of 2026…..GREAT ! It’s so flipping Palace!!!

However OG and the board have got to put things right with our squad ASAP before this goes down as a season we’d all like to forget.

Time to show us what your actually made of Glasner.
It's so Palace isn't it. Worst defence ever. We will be able to laugh about this one day hopefully. Still who wants to win it every year. Let someone else have it this season 🙂

Back when we had a squad earlier in the season I remember Shearer raving about our midfield and how when one went, they all went. Of course it's a very different midfield atm and it showed today, getting bossed by two non league midfielders and no wing back to be seen. The current system is worse than useless without wing backs isn't it. And I think Glasner knows it but thinks it better to persevere until players return. Munoz in particular can't get back soon enough.

I'm a bit surprised by your venom; I'd expected you might have drawn some consolation from being shown correct when, in the face of some derision and recommendations of Prozac, you expressed the view this fixture felt like a banana skin. Ignominy I grant is hard to bear, particularly when Palace were so comprehensively 'Palace'd by a team sticking excellently to a game plan and taking their opportunities well when, as they always do, they came against a pick'n'mix side of jaded and/or inexperienced and/or very young players fielded by a much loftier club struggling with fixture congestion and injuries. Ours was not a team in the true sense; with hindsight we might well have done better just to play the under-21s who at least are used to each other; we might have done better to stick longer with the starting XI and expect them to redeem their disappointing first half showing; but it would have been at the risk of accusations of disrespecting the competition. We have still to move on and look at how to avoid demoralisation seeping into succeeding games, and the disturbing ongoing sagas of whether we really need to be so poor at defending set pieces, and how to make rather more of what really should be enough chances. At least most of today's players have shown they can be better than today's showing - though not to my concern Bjorna Sosa but then we were saying similar a year ago of Kamada who was sorely missed at Macclesfield. At least that's a few fewer games to be played than it might have been.

All the talk of biggest upset 117 positions below us , think you will find Hereford was lower when they beat Newcastle , and Wimbledon gave the mighty Leeds trouble it took a replay, and of course Sutton beating Coventry, , so its what the FA CUP is all about minions winning against the odds , would have been more upset if we lost to the south coast scum

Are you a long time fan? You've forgotten a couple there.
Alan Pardew was absolute crap for a long time. I remember being very frustrated about him losing the ball, misplacing passes, etc. over quite a few disappointing seasons. His goal in the semi-final against Liverpool doesn't excuse him all that rubbish. 'Super Donkey Pardew' was a name that suited him.

I remember I had a similar feeling to yesterday after England lost to Iceland in euros 2016.

I’m getting teased with the palace game .

But the England game was worse because I live in France ,the amount of stick I got for that was off the charts .
Particularly as I was already discussing with my French friends how I was looking forward to playing them in the quarters ,completely dismissing Iceland .
In Roy we trusted 😂
