Glasner to reject a new deal?

Pathetic, so if he says i am not happy with the January window, Parish can, rightfully say, didn’t know if he was staying, no transfers, only loans, until OG puts pen to paper.
The only way this mid January decision can work is if he’s already said he will stay if they bring in his 3 picks for January and Steve has said I’ll do my best. Seems unlikely to be honest.

I welcome the smorgasbord of opinions and the pot of speculation is simmering.
It is now high time that this debate is free from my rhetoric.
I am reminded of the adage "It will all come out in the wash".
😛
The club is between a rock and a hard place here. They can't announce much publicly, yet they will need to appoint a successor. This is likely to affect the team.

Appointing new managers is fraught with pitfalls.
It's not that long ago that Carrick and Potter were hailed as the bright new managers and they have fallen mightily.
Don't go for the bright young things based on short term performance.

I would say avoid big names ex players ( think De Boer, Vieira) who may think the club and personnel are beneath them.

Avoid 'soundbite ' managers like Southgate and Rodgers who have an inflated view of the profundity of their meanderings.

What's left?
Serious coaches with a proven track record with a number of clubs and without a stellar playing career to avoid the ego getting out of check.

How about Glasner?

Never really understood that adage. I’ve had lots of washes where it hasn’t come out!
bio or non-bio? that is the question. I think SP ignoring OG's warnings over the timing of summer transfers really harmed the chances of a contract renewal. But spending 60 odd million on Johnson, Boey etc may get one foot back over the threshold. And of course they won't make any announcement they will probably come up with some interim rolling contract arrangement which will have a get out clause at the end of the season described as 'renewal' or 'review' or such like.

It is Glasner's decision apropos a continuation of the 'Project' or whether it is in his interests to seek another challenge.
I am not under the impression that personal financial considerations are pivotal in this respect.
It is my belief that Glasner is a manager who wants to see the club he manages, whatever their size, progress year on year. That, IMO, is a greater motivation for him that the size of his financial package.

If he is satisfied that our board shares his vision of progress/growth, then he may stay. The sticking point may be the envisaged speed of progress/growth. Glasner has previously said that it's not simply about growing the quality of the playing squad but of growing the club in all its aspects and the new stand is clearly a major element in such desired growth. Building of the new stand has to start in earnest next month - no more delays will be acceptable.

As for January incomings, I expect 2 permanents and at least 1 loan.

Ollie is a winner. You can see how much he hates to lose. I honestly don’t think this has anything to do with the money they offer him. As another poster said, it will be decided in the first half of January (he said as much). I don’t think he wants 5 players, rather 2 absolute quality that can walk in the team and pressure the seriously over worked starting 11.

Ollie seems happy enough with Palace, if we get a couple of top quality players in, especially a centre back to cover MG when he leaves plus the promise of a couple of early signings in the summer, I think he stays. Without that, he’s gone and who could blame him.

I’d rather focus on getting some decent players in. Squad depth or lack of it must be the biggest problem atm. I don’t really get Glasner’s preference for a small quality squad - when they get injured - as is inevitable when you have the number of fixtures we have - you have nowhere to go

It's indicative of the man (OG) when he continues to try his best, even if he were leaving. And hopefully he'll have the Board's backing for however long he's here.
The fact none of us can guess, is the mentality of someone who keeps trying, well into injury time.

I reckon OG might stay, (but has been proven time and again, I know nothing about football)

There are a number of items at play :
Options already put in front of OG buy his agent
OG being away from his family for so long as wifey & daughter are back in Austria
OG trend of win trophy then leave due to lack of support from investors
Parish being told by OG to get his the “right” players not cheap cheap
Parish asking himself am I buying for OG system or for the club as a new manager will come in in summer

Fab Rom is only trying to stay relevant that’s how he gets paid so will print any contentious crap
Be nice for OG to say in his next press conference- “don’t believe anything you read just like Fab Rom shite”

Oh what to do 🤣

Glasner is gone. time to look forward and start planning for the future. im sure the board have had a contigency plan in place for a while for this very instance
If he is gone, there will be no transfers in January. Why buy players any new manager may not want, wait until summer.
If we do any significant value business in January, it will signal Glasner is staying.

Thinking - perhaps over thinking - about this topic, I say buy quality building blocks in January.

They will be poliished into jewels by May by OG
The world outside Palace will be confused; intending Palace Managers will work harder to show they are good enough for CPFC; no outsider will know whether OG will stay or not; and hopefully OG will relish the task of integrating those currently on loan into the Palace first team - or into the next stage of their careers with other clubs.

We have many England qualified young men. It will be great to see a high percentage of ex Palace players pulling on the shirt in 2030. .

A good manager should be able to work with whoever they've got. If we buy in January, and Oli then goes in the summer, I'd expect the new manager to be told he has enough quality to continue the attempt at an upwards trajectory.
To me, too many managers bleat about their squad when in reality they have plenty of talent, it's just they can't get a decent tune out of them.

The point is that the board could offer the biggest wage in the league, promise him loads of new players in January, build a new stand and anything else. But they can not make OG sign a new contract. He now has all the aces and no one knows what OG has in his mind at this point. So to demand an answer to why we let OG go is ridiculous. The board (as far as we are aware) do not want to let him go, we just don’t control the situation!

I don't agree with your framing of the situation.

You are correct in that if someone is determined to leave, then no amount of money will change that. You're stating the obvious but missing a big point: What would make Glasner think this way?

I know many people on here dote over Steve Parish but you have not put any of the responsibility on him.

Glasner has publicly stated his grievances over lack of players. So if an ambitious manager has not got the support from the board, then he'd probably rather coach at a club who will give him that - and he will have plenty of offers. So yes, no amount of money for a new contract will change that.

With Freedman gone, does this mean the club's recruitment structure has collapsed? Is that why we have no-one come in?

The only local reporter who covers Palace properly is Bobby Manzi and he will have a better steer on this situation than any of us. He is critical of the board on the contract issue which is interesting.

Although OG wants short term roles. Will bigger teams be happy with investing for him to bugger off after 2 years.
Does he, Wolfsburg, Eintract and Palace, he's 51, not old obviously, but top coaches are paid serious money these days. If I were him I'd be looking to lock into a longer deal and really set me and my family up.
