I want all citizenship and associated citizenship removed.
 
Baroness Longfield now appointed to chair the enquiry.
A Labour Peer and survivors say they have not been consulted.
She was the Children's commissioner and appears to genuinely care but I am afraid that by appointing a Labour Peer it already stinks of a Labour cover up - they are just unable to play anything with a straight bat are they.
Makes my blood boil!

Describing something as a coverup without knowing the full details is irresponsible.

All it does is wind people up and encourage them to make assumptions. As you do.

There are good reasons why things like this are dealt with in a closed court room. So that the facts can be examined and appropriate steps taken to both protect the victim and ensure age suitable punishment and remedial action is taken for the perpetrators. Whatever their background.

It’s not a political point scoring opportunity.

But they do know the details. Certain facts are established, such as:

1) They were Afghan asylum seekers who arrived months earlier.
2) The authorities described them as being from Leamington Spa.

It looks like a dishonest and misleading description, at best.
To everyone except you.

The trouble is, if you hide behind a veil of secrecy, the public will make stuff up, so best to tell the facts from the start.
There’s a case in Somerset of a 9 year old girl being stabbed and killed by a 15 year old boy. She had been named but the boy cannot because the law says he is underage. I’m not sure what your stance on this is, but if you commit such a crime you should be named, otherwise the internet will be awash with potential situations.

Did they not also describe the victim as a Young woman, when she was in fact a minor, ie girl?

Read the comments from the sentencing judge, she was basically outraged at the initial description and the lack of information given out. A judge with principles, who’d have thought it. This was quite clearly another attempt to cover up a sex crime carried out by illegal migrants, a fact I believe the judge may have alluded to.
No political point scoring just stated facts

My stance is simple. The law is the law. It would have been determined after a great deal of thought and debate into all aspects and all circumstances. Even for such an awful crime as this is.

How we control speculation is another question. I would restrain the media myself and not allow them to publish anything more than that released by the police until trial. Dealing with the internet, on issues like this and many more, is much more difficult but really important. We have only just started to get any kind of grip on this but much more is needed. The major platforms have got to start taking responsibility for what appears or we will have to close them down. Only this week Musk said it was impossible to moderate X due to the volume of posts. My response to that would be tough. You claim AI can do anything. So make it do it or lose the right to our market.

The ‘thought and debate’ may be the problem as the law concerning at what age a person can be named is probably decades out of date, when under eighteens were more restrained and probably in bed by 9pm. The law hasn’t changed but society has.

It wasn’t easy to find but I did read them. There isn’t any “outrage” I can see. She scolded the boys for bringing asylum seekers into disrepute. She was scathing about their behaviour and rejected any suggestions that culture could provide mitigation. Correctly in my opinion. She lifted reporting restrictions to “prevent speculation and false information.”

That worked!

Is an opinion, but not the law. The law can be changed if Parliament decides to change it. So far they haven’t.

I suppose by that you mean that it was assumed that the boys were asylum seekers. Why is that an outrage? It’s deeply disappointing but so is any crime of this type. In the meantime we continue to face the need to deal with asylum claims and accommodate the applicants while they are processed. We all wish that wasn’t true but neither a workable solution nor a magic wand has yet been found. Expressing outrage might make you feel better but it does nothing at all to help anyone else.
