Can't help falling in love

Was even worse last night. Felt like with the fireworks and everything the crowd were pumped, and that song is such a change of pace. Such a buzz kill
Totally agree….ridiculous thing to do. I like the song, not sure of any association with Palace other than chosen by a BBC Editor, but play it well before Glad All Over.

why a bbc editor? Weren't the lyrics on a banner unferled at the semi final if my memory server me right?

I vaguely remember 'Can't Help Falling In Love' at Selhurst way back in the 70's, and I really loved the sentiment behind the Wembley banner - totally get it. However it is so low energy it should never be played as part of the pre-match build up. Check out this version of 'Three Little Birds', most of today's fans would consider it a Palace song and this version would make a great pre-match song and get everyone going!

Sunderland play it before games.
If the song is so downbeat and de-motivating, how come they have successfully punched above their weight for decades?
....Oh wait

What a load of rubbish. I have been a regular attendee at Palace since the 60s and cannot remember this being played. Yes the Salvation Army Band, pop groups and stars, various US college bands and “Glad All Over” since it first played. Anyway the sound system wasn’t so great in those days and with open terraces you couldn’t tell. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was made up to appease us fans.

Just go back to the days when the National Anthem played before every game. Whilst an army cadet or veteran raised the flag and saluted. No one could possibly have an issue with that
I first went to Selhurst in 1954 and I don't remember ever witnessing that. I think my earliest memory - probably at the end of the fifties - is Russ Conway's "Side Saddle", which I seem to recall was just honky-tonk piano, with no voices. It must have been the only record the club had because it was played endlessly.

Been going to the palace since the late seventies and can only remember 2 songs being played:

"Glad All Over" by the Dave Clark Five

"Power To The Palace"

Yep absolute tosh......I stood in the AW enclosure mid 70s to early 80s, never sung and I would remember!

Power to the Palace is absolutely great. An oldie, but a goldie. I'd love to see this make a comeback.

I'd also like to hear a lot more Faithless given the late Maxi Jazz's connection to the club.
