Marc Guéhi

Kenny got 9 of his 86 caps with Palace
A couple of others from looking around.
Most capped player: Wayne Hennessey 55 (Carl Fletcher got 21 for Wales as well)
First player to appear at the World Cup - Gregg Berhalter
First to score at the World Cup - Mile Jedinak.
A Font of Knowledge!

Yes good for him, I even like the way when he’s been interviewed recently he seems to put down any hints that he might be unhappy, for example last night the interviewer said you’ve had quite a week, he said “I’ve had a great week”
Another one the other day said he must’ve had a tough time and he said “no, not really”
Top man all round
Eccentrically enough perhaps I think Marc Guehi is exactly where he wanted to be at the moment. His problem was Parish wanting to get some revenue from his departure which would be inconsistent with a move to Real Madrid. So many oddities about who think there could be more eligible options than a move to Liverpool!!. Not to mention a continuing role in the Glasner at Palace epic. Palace's away record is better than Liverpool's this year to date incidentally.

I was told by someone who knows more than me that Real Madrid are currently sussing out the amount of interest/competition there is likely to be for Guehi in January. Should one or two big hitters be in for him they are prepared to pay our asking price in January but loan him back to us until the summer. This would position themselves above all other parties as preferred bidders as far as Palace are concerned, it would give Marc closure he may seek on his future and Real get the deal done. Win/win all round. And lets face it, £25m to Real is chump change.
Who knows? If this happened he might get the chance to win something else before he leaves to go and win the World Cup! 😉

They can sign him on a pre contract in January. He can then join them for free in the Summer. He then gets the ‘chump change’ as his signing on fee.
There’s no motivation for RM to enter into the arrangements you’ve outlined.

I would suggest that, given his Christian beliefs, Guehi probably isn't motivated by money, so, for example, if he really wants to go to Liverpool and Liverpool try to buy him in January to ward off other suitors, he's not likely to hold out for the big signing on fee that a free transfer in the Summer could command.

I must admit I’ve never reckoned the church of any faith to be shy when it comes to accepting money.

I think Marc’s eye will be firmly on what suits him best and no one would blame him.

Real Madrid sniffing around looking for a bargain. And they seem to be very interested cos Guehi has an Ivorian Passport and all African players get some kind of a money discount on signings into Spain.......according to the article i read.

Ha ha he's going to tell LiVARpool to do one. Serves them right for insulting him with their transfer show.

Hope he plays an absolute blinder against them.

Of course there is. Palace would welcome this deal and shut out all other interested parties as a consequence. Plus it gets the deal done instead of a promise to do so in the summer.

Oliver Glasner rules out Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi playing for England. Says that if Guehi reports to camp, he expects him to be sent straight back. Hopeful he can return after the international break.

If Guehi reports to the England camp then he is kidding Palace over his injured foot. If this happens it might be a sign that relations between him and OG are strained possibly over the Alkmaar incident. I feel less worried about it since Canvot’s performance yesterday and with Riad returning to training.

Agree, the only reason you run down a contract is to maximise your wages/signing on fee when you do sign for another club.

I'm not knocking MG, it's a short career etc but after Olise re-signed 2 years ago on £100k p.w MG could have signed a similar deal (as Eze did).

He and his agent clearly thought waiting another 3 years (so losing £50k a week extra) would be worthwhile in the long term.

I strongly suspect MG's agent is asking a minimum of £200k a week for his services and possibly more.

If he joins someone in January his wage demands will be similar so the transfer fee will be quite low as the overall 5 year package (wages, signing on fee/agents fee, and transfer fee) could be c £80m to £100m (minimum £11m wages per year for 5 years, £5m agent fee and £20m transfer fee).

Liverpool's £35m bid was on a low side and they waited until the last minute despite clearly needing a CB all summer. I strongly suspect his wage demands were the issue.

Maximize the revenue and gift the money to his church?

I don't think that was the case.

It was reported that he agreed personal terms with them well in advance of the transfer deadline.

I think Liverpool were encouraged by Parish's stating that Palace needed to sell. So by leaving it all until the last minute they thought they could drive his fee down. And it nearly worked.

They must be regretting not closing a deal earlier in the window, their defence has been awful this season.

yes they did - but they didn't increase their offer to Palace.

They knew MG wanted x per week in wages but were only prepared to pay it if the transfer fee was on the low side so the overall package was not overly excessive. The transfer fee offered was limited as the wages were very high.

Look at Wissa to Newcastle (29 years old and 1 year left of contract). Newcastle first bid c£25m for him and in the end agreed over £50m. I strongly suspect his wage demands were a lot lower.
