Arsenal vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Glasner was in mischievous mood when interviewed post match.
He was asked what Palace needed to improve and he replied 'spend £300 million and not save £20 million.'

Obviously we're never going to spend that kind of money, but the side has been made weaker in at least the near term with the sale of Eze, and Glasner has a point about the club saving money rather than spending.
We lack options in the number 10/ attacking positions.

Glasner doesn't trust Esse or Uche at this stage and Sarr if off to Afcon next month.
Towards the end of the window Glasner was expecting two attacking additions.
He got one in Uche, and even then it seems to be some sort of loan/purchase deal contingent on him starting games.

Of course spending money doesn't guarantee players will succeed but there's value to be had out there - look at Bournemouth, Brentford and Sunderland.

Overall we've done very well in recent seasons with our transfer business.
However, summer looks poor - particularly taking into account the heavy schedule.
He is right, the PSR is fixed so smaller clubs dont financially challenge the top 6. That's why clubs like Palace, Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford get their best players poached by the top 6 or Europe. Newcastle, who are the richest club, but are restricted by PSR and cant spend their money, so can't break into the top 6.

We were playing the best team in England currently, who hadn't conceded a shot on their goal for 250 minutes before kick off, away. They only won by a set piece goal, other than that they had no clear shots on goal.
The basic fact is, we need every player playing near their best for us to get a result against the top teams, it doesn't always happen.

Agree with all of this.

A lot of negative talk, and talk of negativity.

I think it fair to say we’ve looked a far cry from the months that preceded recent losses. Even when results didn’t go perfectly our way in that period, we played like a team who were likely to win every game.

A combination of an unlikely loss at Everton taking the wind, a European schedule meaning essentially further disruption to our season, plus added fatigue, and our lack of ability to spend on either quality or quantity have led to this spell.

As always, when it arrives it feels as though it’ll never change or improve and we’re once again doomed to lose forever more.

It’s gonna be a long season, shock horror we’ve discovered the team is human, and we will win again. Key thing is to see what our response to recently disappointing performances/results will be. Glasner/this team have earned a little faith and our full support.

Pino is diligent, looks to help Mitchell and keep the defensive shape.
All ticks in the box from the disciplined Glasner who majors on defensive structure and organisation.

Can he do the other (more important?) bit though - the offensive part?

He made two goals v Kiev, has hit a couple of decent crosses, missed a few half chances and that's about the sum of it.
It's early days, but we need goals and assists from that position.

Always going to be tough.

Lacroix and Mitchell good defensively.

Pino awful, although some lovely little touches.

Kamada absolutely woeful - but what’s new?

Wharton a shadow of his former self without his partner Hughes beside him - no coincidence the team improved in the last 20.

Sarr bang average.

Mateta decent until we ran out of steam.

Onto the next.

Was Glasner not alluding to the fact that if Eze had not been sold to Arsenal in the summer his goal would have put us 1-0 up instead of Arsenal.

Then I literally don’t know what game you were watching.
Did you go to the game? Kamada got us out of some really difficult defensive situations excellently. Fans signing about him playing like Zidane, doubt that would have happened if he was as bad as you say.
We all just need to be reminded of the level of the opposition this afternoon before we get on the players backs. Time to get back on track next week against Brentford.

Wow, it’s so funny how people see things so differently. Was watching with Arsenal fans who agreed with my assessment. I agree he was no worse than Pino and Sarr…didn’t mean to single him out specifically - I think if you reread my comment I mentioned all three of them were toilet.

Anyway, we move on/

there was the run and reverse pass at Villa and a vital interception from a high ball and brilliant lay off in the build up to our first goal v Liverpool, he was great at Everton but got outmuscled today - and he works really hard; he'll get better and be quicker to improve than Kamada was.

I think we are suffering from playing twice a week . Not because of fatigue but because Glasner can't get the lads out on the training ground and work on the finer details of the next game .Thurs / Sunday/ Tuesday is just madness and basically means playing ,resting and watching a few videos

I too thought Kamada was good, great positioning and vital interceptions to set up play, Wharton was up to his usual high standard, Pino got outmuscled many times but 'awful' is very unfair, nobody stands out as playing badly, our interplay in midfield was excellent, but we WERE crap in the final third generally, nobody in particular to point at, it was general.
