Arsenal vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Guehi ,the indefatigable Munoz ,one more maybe ?
Didn’t think Guehi looked great today. Munoz was our best player although his final ball was below his usual high standard.
I think that’s the first league game where I felt we were second best. We should have beaten Everton, Forest, and Chelsea but didn’t deserve anything today.

We were playing the best team in England currently, who hadn't conceded a shot on their goal for 250 minutes before kick off, away. They only won by a set piece goal, other than that they had no clear shots on goal.
The basic fact is, we need every player playing near their best for us to get a result against the top teams, it doesn't always happen.

I’m moaning more about him being selected in the first 11. At the moment he is too weak, gives the ball away and fouls unnecessary. He should be used as an impact sub. It’s more down to Glasner. I’m also annoyed that we brought those 3 subs on in the 90th minute. They needed at least 10 minutes before that, even if we let in a second whilst going for the equaliser. There was no time for them. He made mistakes last Thursday with team selection/balance. Hopefully he learns from these last games?
Couldn't agree more. Absolutely pointless to bring on players as late as this. And he (Glasner) fields the same starting eleven too often. The squad isn't good enough, or big enough, to win every match.
That said, Glasner has been brilliant, of course.
Plan for Guehi leaving and if someone offers £50m for Mateta, then take it. And let's see some home grown talent coming through from the Academy even if that only happens once we've got 38 points.

Of the 3 losses I still find Everton the hardest to take tbh. Although Lanarca was clearly also very frustrating.
Agree, that Everton loss still hurts! Cannot believe we didn’t win that game.

I realised earlier, Mateta missed a sitter in that game, and a sitter at the end against Brentford, and should have scored against Larnaca…….

So many negative comments on here. They will be champions, they don't concede goals. If we play like that we can beat half the prem at least.
Good prem fixtures coming up and its pivotal before the Kups game on 18th Dec we are in top 8 as well as around top 8-12 of the prem.
Not sure about you all but winning the Conference League has to be the number one aim this season. Losing 1-0 to Arsenal with a solid effort isn't going to detract from that.

Rubbish we scored 3 against 2nd in the lge and the weather was hard to play good football in the other , we have lost by 1 in all 3 games , that's the problem with some supporters give them the world but want more , we just need tobe more clinical with the passing
Precisely, we need to be more clinical across the park, it's all gone a little flat. As a poster above remarks, it's a game of fine margins - currently we're not quite "on it" and it shows.

I am a bit worried where are our goals going to come from to get us out of our current downturn. Last season we were relying on Eze and JP, and to an extent Sarr, to score for us, which they regularly did.

This season, without Ebs, and with JP currently not as sharp as he was, we really need others to contribute. The trouble is they are not. Wharton, Lerma, Hughes, Kamada and Pino haven't mustered a single goal between them this season. Perhaps not overly surprising in that, apart from Pino, none of them have much of history of finding the net.

All strikers fluff their lines on occasions ,Mateta has been excellent for us why would you want to sell him ? Word on the street is that no one is coming through the academy at the moment ,this is according to Salako who by all accounts has his to the ‘street’

Nor has Pino.In 5 full seasons at Villarreal he only scored 17 La Liga goals.

True, but how will holding midfielders score? They're not able to get forward often and that's when you see our speculative long shots. We're relying on a couple - as you say - and they're not doing it.

Glasner was in mischievous mood when interviewed post match.
He was asked what Palace needed to improve and he replied 'spend £300 million and not save £20 million.'

Obviously we're never going to spend that kind of money, but the side has been made weaker in at least the near term with the sale of Eze, and Glasner has a point about the club saving money rather than spending.
We lack options in the number 10/ attacking positions.

Glasner doesn't trust Esse or Uche at this stage and Sarr if off to Afcon next month.
Towards the end of the window Glasner was expecting two attacking additions.
He got one in Uche, and even then it seems to be some sort of loan/purchase deal contingent on him starting games.

Of course spending money doesn't guarantee players will succeed but there's value to be had out there - look at Bournemouth, Brentford and Sunderland.

Overall we've done very well in recent seasons with our transfer business.
However, summer looks poor - particularly taking into account the heavy schedule.

Uche only scored 4 goals in 40 appearances last season.

If I were to look for some kind of radical solution - something like Guehi as an anchor in defensive midfield. I believe he has the attributes. Make Hughes the ball winner and Wharton the advanced playmaker. Then we might get more from central areas. We get nothing currently. I'm just musing.

It would appear he is not best pleased with the transfer activity in the 'Window' !
