Villa v Maccabi

Can anyone on here please give me an example of when, foreign fans have been banned from attending a match in the UK. Eastern Europeans known for their racist views? Roma fans known for violence, Dutch fans known for violence. I can’t think of any other petition raised against those fans, happy to be proved wrong
I think it’s fair enough to criticise the petition but not fair enough to criticise the police or local authority for reaching their decision on public safety grounds.

When any team has a history of disturbances following them around, whether their fault or not, it’s not unreasonable to be cautious. Decisions being made solely on objective assessment and not on politics. So just because a team is based in Israel is neither a reason to ban their supporters nor a reason not to.

Would there be this amount of fuss if the police had acted on receiving intelligence that the ultras from Galatasaray were planning to come to the UK for a European game intent on causing havoc?

Why on earth are we even having to consider this? Israel clearly not being in Europe.

Clearly not on politics since the government don't agree.

The trouble in Amsterdam is also going to count against them now.
These are fighting Israeli fans, and anyone who thinks it's sensible and correct to allow them into predominantly Muslim areas for a football match, really need to take a step back and be objective.
Maccabi trouble makers will be looking for a fight and you can bet the Muslim tough guys will be very well prepared, to protect themselves and their property.
We'll have to wait and see what the Birmingham police now think.
Excuse me but what country are we talking about? England, Britain? Or Pakistan FFS? Fvcking unbelievable bending over some of you lot want to do for Muslims. No fvcking way.

🤣🤣 what a shock.

No doubt the gaslighting will continue from our media and politicians regardless, as the usual suspects frantically froth at whatever latest outrage they are fed.

Below are 10+ examples of away fans being banned from European fixtures due to violence or disorder at their previous fixtures. All have happened within the last 5 years, and at precisely none of them was religion or ethnicity ever considered relevant.

The latest ban for Maccabi fans is not remotely unique, or even particularly unusual. Maccabi themselves were banned from another away match in 2022, and no one batted an eye lid.

Just complete manufactured outrage this time round.

Are you Muslim?

Nonsense. Here's the petition wording, relevant bit in bold. Also no use of the word jew, you might notice.

"On 6 November, Aston Villa are due to host Maccabi Tel Aviv at Villa Park in Birmingham. We are calling on UEFA, the UK Culture Minister, and the club itself to urgently cancel this fixture or take immediate steps to ensure public safety and community harmony.

This is not a normal football match. It cannot be treated as business as usual.

Why action is needed

Ongoing genocide in Gaza: As Israel continues its assault on Gaza, killing thousands and devastating civilian infrastructure, sporting fixtures involving Israeli teams cannot be separated from the wider political context. Hosting such teams sends a message of normalisation and indifference to mass atrocities.

Track record of violence by Maccabi Tel Aviv fans: The club’s supporters have previously caused serious disruption and violence during matches abroad, including clashes and riots in Amsterdam. Their arrival in Aston - a diverse and predominantly Muslim community - poses a real risk of tensions within the community and disorder.

Wider European context: Across Europe, calls are growing to cut cultural and sporting ties with Israel. Ireland has even warned it will boycott Eurovision if Israel is allowed to participate. Sport cannot be an exception when human rights are at stake.

Our demands

We therefore call on the relevant authorities to take immediate steps to protect local communities and uphold ethical sporting standards by doing one of the following:
- Cancel the match entirely, or
- Relocate the match to a neutral third country, or
- Hold the match behind closed doors with no spectators.

At the very least, we call on the relevant authorities to ensure any Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters that have been seen chanting and causing disorder in Amsterdam are prevented from entering the UK and any that do not come are securely bussed in and out under strict coditions, without the chance to gather and roam in Birmingham.

Add your name to demand decisive action before it’s too late. "
Another one bent over for Muslims.

Because, genocide is perfectly reasonable grounds for all Israeli teams to be banned from Europe - like Russian teams are. I don't hear many of you lot bleating about Russias right to participate. Israel shouldn't be playing. Aside from the fact they're not even in Europe ffs....
It's an obvious Public Safety concern, this really isn't rocket science. As someome pointed out loads of other clubs supporters get barred from matches for previous bad behaviour, and nobody complains. This is normal.

IF Maccabi fans didn't have a reputation for violence, disorder, islamophobic and racist chants, then you might have a point about anti-semitism. Unfortunately for you, they do - as perfectly demonstrated by their local derby being called off BY ISRAELI POLICE due to rioting and risk to life. Does that make the Israeli police anti-semitic??!
If Israel wanted to commit real genicide they could wipe them off the map right now, within an hour.

Slaughter a country’s citizens, hide behind their own citizens and expect no reprisals. Hmmm. Sh1t cvnts.

A moderator telling a poster to keep their views to themselves, because he doesn’t agree with them.

On a messageboard designed for people to share their views.

Fantastic stuff - thank god it’s not the BBS.
When are you and your new buddies here bending down for Muslim prayers? All of you disgust me.

Clearly not on politics since the government don't agree.

I’ve read and heard the government’s, and opposition’s, approach and I disagree with it. I think they are getting as confused about the need to ensure no set of fans is disadvantaged by the prejudice of others with the need to ensure public safety, as some here seem to be.

It’s the job of the police to ensure public safety and that the peace is kept. It’s not their job to allow the political background to influence their judgement in any way.

If the government decides to make a political statement by providing extra resources at our expense, which inevitably would mean either large scale overtime costs or that other policing tasks aren’t done, then the local authority might reconsider.

I wouldn’t be happy about that. Is such a cost truly justified? It just doesn’t seem that important. There are much more important things at present.

It's OK, they're saving money on other things.

Around the point - the risk exists, so what should they do?

It's a salient point as far as I'm concerned.

It's the only reason there is a problem: the activists within the Muslim community threatening the lives of people they don't like.

The football match? Personally I don't see it......Very risky now. Prime candidate for a nutcase(s) with plenty of time to organise.

Will the government make it happen out of principle? We will see.

As I have previously said, would a local MP raised a petition to have them banned? Would they even have been banned? Whilst I am happy to criticise policing in this country when I feel it is warranted, our police are used to dealing with mobs of football fans. Why not bring in resources from other areas, they did for Epping and even Brighton Palace
True but their teams have been playing in Europe for years, why question it now?

So Israel has just told the UK to f*** off
And match day stewards told they didn’t have to work if they had concerns 🤔. What concerns could they have? Compared to stewarding PL games and local derbies
