Selhurst Park was built on an old brick field. I'm sure they have done some tests. The new Everton ground is good, but we dont have the benefits of an old dockyard area that needed redeveloping, the whole area around there reminded me of the old dockland before canary wharf, will be proper redeveloped, lots of old derelict warehouses etc.
So we have all worked out we have to stay at Selhurst, I doubt I will still be here when it gets done, bit like the A303 Stonehenge bypass or the A27 at Arundel.
Another issue is the footprint around Selhurst, a new stand will require a large construction site, you cant get away anymore with a few hoardings, and who knows what actually is under the main stand?
Woody Johnson is going to have enough to pay out for, what with Johnson & Johnson having to compensate thousands of people who have contracted cancer because of his asbestos laden talcum powderBut here's the kicker, would Woody Johnson be happy to pay for it? I'm guessing not.
Ugly design but I do think there is a world where we pressed on with that and faced up the NIMBYs and had it built in the same time as it's taken us to not build a new stand. The romantic in me does love the idea of a return to CPP but it won't happen nowWho remembers this one?
I'm (just) north of the M25, and where it's a fairly easy journey to Selhurst by train, it takes an AGE - about 2.5hrs+. It takes me 45 mins to get to Stratford/Liverpool St, so never sure why getting from there to Selhurst should take quite so long. I realise it's further south than I always expect it to be, but still.By car.
It is.
I agree on all points!Ugly design but I do think there is a world where we pressed on with that and faced up the NIMBYs and had it built in the same time as it's taken us to not build a new stand. The romantic in me does love the idea of a return to CPP but it won't happen now
Yeah they haven't actually found a direct link to people using the talc/people that now have cancer.Woody Johnson is going to have enough to pay out for, what with Johnson & Johnson having to compensate thousands of people who have contracted cancer because of his asbestos laden talcum powder

Only that traces of Asbestos were found in the talc. This has long since been removed and J&J claim they have vigorously tested it before sale ever since. Who knows?
But thats off topic. I dont understand how WJ would have enough to pay for a new stadium if he suddenly had to fork out millions in compensation. Surely that would be the case if the opposite were true?
Agree with you, the Stadium could be built while still playing at Selhurst, my only niggle would be the atmosphere, fans could be along way from the pitch like West Ham, Selhurst is intimidating for away teams,If Khan has a plan to regenerate Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium then I don't understand why we wouldn't be involved in that? Surely we could invest too and make it a public private partnership.
The obvious way to increase capacity would be to put another tier on the Arthur Waite Stand.
There are a dozen houses or so behind the stand which could be purchased if light restriction was an issue.
You could probably put 5k on a top tier with some more executive boxes and that would give us our 40k. The boxes in the Whitehorse could then be removed and add some more seats to that end.
It's all about money.
Who remembers this one?

Black rubber. Ooh-er.They have no windows anyway as far as I can tell. Maybe for the bathroom. Never knew our main stand seats were black though

I was thinking the roofs of the stands could be designed to show a Palestine flag from above. They'd love that. We'd be the talk of the town. We'd have to play the race card or he wouldn't be interested. Maybe a mosque or minaret tower at one end?
TV money in UK is flat lining as little room for growth. Overseas market continues to grow and may have further headroom. It isn’t tv or gates you need it is a combination plus just as important sponsorship and other commercial income and non football income.
Looking at revenue of other big sports in US, revenue continues to grow and no reason why football in PL won’t continue to follow
.................. it seems clear that the council may well be prepared to use compulsory purchase powers to buy the Sainsbury's ransom strip if an impasse lingers. It's far quicker to just agree a deal, but the council wants the investment in the area and that's exactly what CPO powers are for. I see no reason to view them as anything other than on the clubs side, insofar as sides can be taken. Fair play to Parish, perhaps he wants to build a working relationship with Sainsbury's and that's why we haven't had to go down the CPO route, but I strongly suspect the council has the club's back on that issue.......
