Main Stand redevelopment thread

The new Everton ground is good, but we dont have the benefits of an old dockyard area that needed redeveloping, the whole area around there reminded me of the old dockland before canary wharf, will be proper redeveloped, lots of old derelict warehouses etc.
So we have all worked out we have to stay at Selhurst, I doubt I will still be here when it gets done, bit like the A303 Stonehenge bypass or the A27 at Arundel.
Another issue is the footprint around Selhurst, a new stand will require a large construction site, you cant get away anymore with a few hoardings, and who knows what actually is under the main stand?
Selhurst Park was built on an old brick field. I'm sure they have done some tests.

Who remembers this one?
Ugly design but I do think there is a world where we pressed on with that and faced up the NIMBYs and had it built in the same time as it's taken us to not build a new stand. The romantic in me does love the idea of a return to CPP but it won't happen now

By car.

It is.
I'm (just) north of the M25, and where it's a fairly easy journey to Selhurst by train, it takes an AGE - about 2.5hrs+. It takes me 45 mins to get to Stratford/Liverpool St, so never sure why getting from there to Selhurst should take quite so long. I realise it's further south than I always expect it to be, but still.

I agree on all points!

Woody Johnson is going to have enough to pay out for, what with Johnson & Johnson having to compensate thousands of people who have contracted cancer because of his asbestos laden talcum powder
Yeah they haven't actually found a direct link to people using the talc/people that now have cancer.
Only that traces of Asbestos were found in the talc. This has long since been removed and J&J claim they have vigorously tested it before sale ever since. Who knows?
But thats off topic. I dont understand how WJ would have enough to pay for a new stadium if he suddenly had to fork out millions in compensation. Surely that would be the case if the opposite were true?

Millions in compo is nothing for companies like that just take a look at all the law suits against Pfizer it's meaningless to them which is why they keep doing what they do.

Of course there is no direct link to cancer because we don't know the cause of any type of cancer but many like to claim they do know those people should be ignored the same with the ones which claim to have been cured (They will use the same model which has been used for Tobacco we don't know the full mechanism but have so much data to show such an overwhelming association it can't be ignored)

J&J as well as all the other companies always claim to have done lots of testing etc it's lies they do the testing they can get away with and most of the time they adjust data to suit them covid vaccines prime example.

Back to the stadium subject The main stand is going to be done we know this and that is it nothing else we got to live with it now (We needed wealth Saudi to come in then things would have happened but if that had happened SP would have been gone)

Woody is not going to really offer anything he has taken over what Tex had which was really no power people in this position are not going to invest lots of money it wont benefit them & US is nothing like UK when it comes to buying or constructing.

Looking at some of the old designs for stadium that one at Crystal Palace is awful but if switch out for different design the area could have looks really nice (It would need a bus hub and updated train facilities the plans didn't show anyway never going to happen they missed the boat to slow again)

If Khan has a plan to regenerate Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium then I don't understand why we wouldn't be involved in that? Surely we could invest too and make it a public private partnership.
Agree with you, the Stadium could be built while still playing at Selhurst, my only niggle would be the atmosphere, fans could be along way from the pitch like West Ham, Selhurst is intimidating for away teams,

The obvious way to increase capacity would be to put another tier on the Arthur Waite Stand.

There are a dozen houses or so behind the stand which could be purchased if light restriction was an issue.
You could probably put 5k on a top tier with some more executive boxes and that would give us our 40k. The boxes in the Whitehorse could then be removed and add some more seats to that end.

It's all about money.

Don't think you need to even buy the 4 to 6 houses affected that face that way. A tier would go on and if you used clear materials in the top of it the light gets through - we are "Crystal Palace" after all.

Let's leave it to the architects

We'd have to play the race card or he wouldn't be interested. Maybe a mosque or minaret tower at one end?

Parish was pretty clear that essential work on the new stand has started and we will see signs of work soon. They’ve also come up with a modified design using steel rather than concrete which is cheaper and quicker. It’s happening. Given that, talk of a new ground elsewhere is pointless.
On the question of transport links nowhere in the world has a transport network like London. Any club north of Watford would be delighted to have the options that Selhurst has.

TV money in UK is flat lining as little room for growth. Overseas market continues to grow and may have further headroom. It isn’t tv or gates you need it is a combination plus just as important sponsorship and other commercial income and non football income.

Looking at revenue of other big sports in US, revenue continues to grow and no reason why football in PL won’t continue to follow

You have to factor in VPN. Its costing Sky at the moment and I can't see it changing. It emanates from countries that don't give a shyte and otherwise VPN, as far as I know is untraceable. They catch the odd reseller but there's always another one waiting in the wings.

.................. it seems clear that the council may well be prepared to use compulsory purchase powers to buy the Sainsbury's ransom strip if an impasse lingers. It's far quicker to just agree a deal, but the council wants the investment in the area and that's exactly what CPO powers are for. I see no reason to view them as anything other than on the clubs side, insofar as sides can be taken. Fair play to Parish, perhaps he wants to build a working relationship with Sainsbury's and that's why we haven't had to go down the CPO route, but I strongly suspect the council has the club's back on that issue.......

Even with a CPO you'd still have to pay the going rate for the strip which is 1/3rd of the project it enables. £60mil?
So there's no point in a CPO, I'm sure Sainsburys would be happy to accept that money for almost nothing.

Depends on where his money is, the Johnson's are no longer connected to J&J which is owned by asset managers. I think he's in the clear.
