It’s not though a defence. It’s a fact. We make the laws! We live in a democracy. It might have its faults but we can correct them, if enough of us decide to do so.I've often heard that as a defence, Wisbech but it all depends who's making the laws, and what those laws are.
On your own island no doubt.Already done. It consists of ivory towers in which you can ignore everything that doesn't fit an agenda, dismiss newspaper reports as made up, video film as fake, personal experience as biased and opinions as influenced evil manipulators.
Individuals aren’t but they are professional. They must leave their politics at home. If they don’t they will quickly be found out because they don’t exist in a vacuum. They have standards to maintain, are being observed and supervised. It can go wrong. Charing Cross police station being an example but eventually it gets sorted. But apparently the law, judiciary and the police are apolitical. They must exist in some sort of silent vacuum.
Nope. Not buying it.On your own island no doubt.
I don’t dismiss anything because of any agenda! I dismiss things that either have no verified evidence, are deliberately taken out of context or edited to tell a particular story. Videos have become particularly unreliable. Even the President of the USA is faking them now, even if his are so clumsy they’re obvious. Personal experience is different and always valuable when told truthfully. Same with opinions. It depends on what underlies them.
Yes you do. You think your opinion on life in London is more valid than that of those who experience it on a daily basis whereas any comments on life In Cornwall are dismissed out of hand as lacking personal knowledge. I've lived in parts of London where my wife was afraid to walk down the road in broad daylight but you've told me I'm wrong . Equally I've explained my experiences of overt racism in Cornwall and you've argued with that. The fact that you can't see it is the issue and you are the only person who can't see itOn your own island no doubt.

Cornwall only borders Devon. Still, as far as I remember, a peaceful place. We all watch our surroundings, which is natural for our safety. Seeing a chap in a hooped top is the start to our protecting ourselves. Secondary features determine our actions. Does he have a mask of a stocking over his head (possibly dangerous), or a bycicle and strings of onions (French onion seller). London is full of sources of danger - at times walking down George Street can worry me.Yes you do. When have you ever provided any verified evidence for any of your opinions?
It's an easy trick to dismiss any post by kicking it down the road until it's point is proven by which time it's always time to move on and put it down to lessons learned and improvements to be made.
Exactly, insane yes thoughNope. Not buying it.
There are more than enough 100% verified examples of undeniable two-tier policing. Ignoring them is just dishonest.
Take the Dartford Labour councillor who was let off after publicly calling for his opponents throats to be cut v
Lucy Connolly jailed for 3 years for a tweet she deleted 30 mins later.
No same person could compare the two cases and justify the two decisions.

I can assure you I am sane and I can.Nope. Not buying it.

If we look to the future, if a, shall we call it, less than benign power in control should introduce a law that discriminated against some citizens and was actually ant-democratic, then this could be used to control citizens in an undemocratic way, if that makes sense. It’s not though a defence. The laws are our laws. They aren’t optional.
Totally wrong. I have no opinion on life in London. I haven’t lived there for 65 years. I observe parts of it when I visit, very occasionally, and am very pleased I don’t now. I didn’t like it 65 years ago because it was crowded, impolite and expensive. That’s seems not to have improved.Yes you do. That would be the democratic choice of the citizens. One they could reverse. If we look to the future, if a, shall we call it, less than benign power in control should introduce a law that discriminated against some citizens and was actually ant-democratic, then this could be used to control citizens in an undemocratic way, if that makes sense.
What a Miele-mouthed comment.A Dysonian society?
The attitudes are based on experience. One being that of many parents fearing their kids won't come home that night. Why they don't all pack up and move hundreds of miles away from their friends and families to run a nice b & b for a few months a year is a mystery.Totally wrong. I have no opinion on life in London. What I comment on is not life in London but the attitudes displayed here by some who do. I don’t doubt your wife was afraid to walk down the road in broad daylight. I felt the same walking past the Blind Beggar in Whitechapel 65 years ago. I don’t do it now through choice and nor, I suspect, does your wife. Which is the point. We all have choices. If you choose to live there, for whatever reason, then clearly those reasons outweigh the reasons not to. It seems to me that some just get stuck in a rut, are incapable of dealing with things so just moan about them. Which is their responsibility. Not their environment.
I choose to live in Cornwall. Which means neither the West End nor Selhurst Park are on my doorstep. Beaches, fresh air, good sailing, great fishing, The Hall for Cornwall and Truro City are though. I have made a choice. Others make theirs, or are too lazy to try.
You had a couple of unfortunate experiences here some years ago. They happen! There are a*se holes everywhere. What I have pointed out is that your experience was untypical, based on my own which now extends for 15 years.
Providing verification for any personal experience on a forum is next to impossible. Sharing them is all you can do and hope that your word is trusted. I don’t doubt your tales of being badly treated here even without them being verified.
Never mind. Suck it up.What a Miele-mouthed comment.

Sure. There's a fine line between not showing any fear for them to feed off and being prepared to get stabbed up. There have always been areas where everyone knew to be on their guard but it's on another level now.Walking past gangs of ten or twenty urban yoof......it can be a bit intimidating for all of us mate. Not just the wives.
You can only guess whether or not some of them are carrying. But you can be certain that the many bicycles will outpace you. And that your rapier wit may not be enough to talk your way out of trouble.
I can easily identify a few postcodes & street corners that are flash-points for all this. But i would expect all non Cornwall Eagles can easily do the same ?
It is a mystery! One of my first wife’s family lived in Southall during the time the character changed. He worked on building sites, little education, self taught Jack of all trades and reliable. He left with nothing but a new wife and a car and, coincidentally came to Cornwall. His brother followed, then his parents. He bought, and renovated, a tumble down cottage whilst living in a caravan, using Dad’s money. That cottage now extended is worth close to £1 mil. He set up a highly successful building business with his brother and became seriously wealthy, building a lovely home for his parents as well. The attitudes are based on experience. One being that of many parents fearing their kids won't come home that night. Why they don't all pack up and move hundreds of miles to away from their friends and families to run a nice b & b for a few months a year is a mystery.
65 years ago the Blind Beggar was still 6 years away from anything of note happening so your fear was a bit preemptive.
