Everton vs. Crystal Palace match thread

That referee was f***ing useless.

Mateta misses two sitters, and we ran out of steam in the second half. The Everton goals were lucky.

We will suffer from fatigue playing Thursday Sunday, and we must strengthen in January.

We had to lose eventually.

Play 20 games you’re going to at some point take less chances than the opposition and lose one. It’s a f’er but we’ll move on.
Yeah but with the chances that shouldnt have been it. We will play pretty badly several times this season and most likely lose them, or some of those. Being good enough for a 4 or 5 goal lead and losing is a dent in how high we can go.

Is what it is

Double disappointment , one that we didn't put this one to bed and two that we somehow let Everton turn it into a war . If there is one thing you dont do is let Everton turn it into a war at home .

We should know that by now , we do it every time we play them

Time to take stock and have a breather and come back stronger , COYP

I don’t mind losing if we’re well beaten by a better team.

But time again sh*t Everton teams manage to mount unlikely comebacks against us mostly playing route 1 football.

May as well just play the U21s in the reverse as they well and truly have a hex on us!

We should have been 3-0 up but for JP’s poor finishing. Might be time to give Nketiah a start. You just knew Everton would come back second half but we looked leggy after an hour or so and stopped winning the ball in midfield. Thursday maybe caught up with us in the end.

Wasted opportunities ! Lost composure 2nd half , lesson learnt hopefully!
Big learning lesson there. At 1-0 and dominating you have to get the second, silence the home fans, we had plenty of chances to do so. At 1-0 given theyre our bogey team away from home I knew this would happen.
Maybe we were getting too casual and believing the hype. Oli got to ground them and get it back for Bournemouth.

Really should have been 2 or 3 up. Missed chances the reason for this defeat plus some players running out of fuel after about 70 minutes.

I thought the ref was poor. Not in the awarding of goals but seemed to award a foul if ever an Everton player went to ground. A real "homer" in old style speak.

Still, well done Palace for a fantastic run and we still sit 5th in the table!! To put it in perspective, we had no wins after 7 games last season and still went on to lift our first major trophy!

Very disappointing to lose that.. We were in total control up until Lacroix ridiculous challenge to give away the penalty..
Even with their possession 2nd half we were never in any danger.. We completely fell apart after they scored which was a bit concerning.

I thought the referee was terrible. They got every 50/50 decision and the decision to book Wharton was absolutely baffling.

Mateta needs to have a look at himself with that miss.. We go 2 up and that would of been game over.

We looked like a blancmange in the second half and those Everton cxxxs had seconds.

At 1-1 if felt like a defeat
At 1-2 it felt like being relegated.

Maybe it will being us down to earth.
It had been so easy in the first half I felt there was a touch of complacency in our play, a slightly casual approach to all our chances i e not to worry, there will be another chance along in a minute.
That really came back to bite us.

You cant blame them for playing to their strengths . The blame is on us for allowing them to.

The hex today was poor defending on both goals .

JPM has been a bit off his best all season and his misses cost us. This game showed the challenges of playing mid week with our squad. We ran out of energy and lost a game we should have won. Very frustrating. In fact really irritating. Oh well.

If I have a criticism of OG I wish he’d rotate the squad a bit more for some games. I can understand it vs Kiev but I hope we see a few rested for some of the (on paper) easier games in the Conference League.

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. Why did it have to be Everton?

We were so, so good in the first half and just didn't look like losing. Too many chances missed and too many wrong decisions in front of goal.

Ollie has an opportunity now to refine some things and the players (at least those not on international duty) have a chance to regenerate before Bournemouth.

At least Forest lost.
