Everton vs. Crystal Palace match thread

The criticism from me is that we didn’t make substitutions earlier. Yes, we missed golden chances to have wrapped it up but players and Pino being one of them was shattered even before half time? Been a great run but one we should still have been on if those substitutions had been made earlier.

I agree with most who are saying why did it have to be Everton, but even more than that for me, it's that c**t Pickford. I can't stand him, never could

For me it's that big girl's blouse and poseur supreme Grealish. It just had to be him to get their winner.

But the fact remains the blame is with us. Should have won this in spite of that ref. What went wrong was obvious, let's hope OG has the resourses to fix it.

For heaven's sake! When we occasionally lose we blame the ref ! Yes, he wasn't that good but we lost because we missed so many very good chances and then lost our cool in the second half to an inferior team. Serves us right. The Grealish winner was fortunate but why the panic in the defence?
I agree that Mateta is not at his best and should have been subbed at half time but our usually solid defence was found wanting.
The run had to end sometime but it irks that is was to our bogey team, Everton.
Pino and Wharton were impressive in the first half so there is more to come from that combination.

I have to say, I was exasperated by one players exhaustion and lack of legs, but then I realised that he, Devenney, had only just come on.

For those wishing Ollie would have subbed sooner, I suspect he valued the unbeaten streak so much that he wanted to use our best team for as long as possible. On another day, with a Thursday night in Poland behind us, he probably would have opted for fresh legs shortly after halftime.

But, boy, did we look brilliant in the first half, eh?

Uche ‘violent conduct’ was almost laughable. How does it even get to a var review. He will need to sort that out though, no need to be doing anything like that, just gives a chance to be sent off for no reason.

Pino almost got himself sent off as well which was rather silly! However, Garner pushed Pino over, where was the ‘violent conduct’ review then?!?!

I don’t think the ref was terrible. I think we should have been out of sight by halftime.
And I despise neither Pickford nor Grealish.
The former is still the best English shot stopper and the latter takes loadsa hits for his team.

The thing that annoyed me today was players drawing a foul by taking a huge step over & away from the ball.
Wharton getting booked for a brilliant old school slide tackle was absurd.
I want even to suggest that the penalty was the same thing…to the point I would even argue that MC was fouled rather than the other way around. The Everton attacker was not making a straight line for the ball.

Bottom line is we can’t sustain 2 games a week on this squad.
I hope we go out of the league cup asap as it’s the least important.
Still been a brilliant start to the season.

He fell for Grealish's diving every time. He gave us next to nothing.

I disagree cos I thought the ref was a total disgrace.
Is he a Scouser?

I think your last sentence in that first paragraph summed up the mistake made by Glasner today. We got done by missing those first half chances and playing on Thursday night without making the necessary changes for the second half. Our defence didn’t have players in front of them that normally support them because of fatigue and that’s what beat us in the second half :-(

Not worth over analysing that performance. As others have said, our first half performance was electric and we should have been a couple of goals to the good.

Hopefully the gutter press will now leave our team and manager alone for a bit , and concentrate on other clubs.

No but he has reffed Everton three times and they have won three times . 🤐

With refs encouraged to keep the game moving and not give soft free kicks the more aggressive side (Everton) is always going to look like its getting favourable decisions . That doesn't explain how Wharton kept getting pulled though
