IMO we dont have a paper thin squad

I’m very much of the opinion now looking at some of the vast amounts of money that’s spunked up the wall on average or worse players in the premier league that I’d sooner us have a thin squad of committed quality players anyway. We’ll take our chances with injuries and suspensions.
For example on Saturday, nearly £250 million for Isak and Wyrz?? Do me a favour!!

We're in the prem because of parish, we have glasner and are competing at the top because of parish, we won the fa cup because of parish.

We dont have a stand because of parish, we got kicked out of the Europa because of parish, we've lost Guehi on a free because of Parish. I dont really see a problem with the criticism.

If Lacroix has a poor performance against Everton and costs us points, in the match discussion we can criticise his performance, it doesn't mesn he hasnt been a great player for us.

I think I under-estimated SP. Especially in the early days when he was still learning how to run a club. Transfer deadline day , Palace always seemed to miss out, but it has become obvious that SP and the management team always have a plan. Even if fans don't know what's going on, he always seems to be a steadying hand. Sometimes there have been odd moments of 'difficulty', but SP's ultimate card now is that he was at the helm when Palace won their first trophy, and their longest continuous stint in the Premiership. Keeping OG happy must now bee his main concern, as we appear ready to strike a rich seam of form.
I don't think SP ever has a full day off. His Phone must always be switched on, 'just in case'. I'm sure the rewards are worth it, and I'm grateful we don't have a Daniel Levvy, Ron Noades or Ken Bates as our chairman,....of indeed a fat Greek cvnt

He's financially stringent, if you judge our last window financially, then it was very successful.
Can our club match Glasners ambitions, id say no. We all know what managers are like, you could give them a budget of 500 mill, they will need 600, there's so many clubs in the top division who're prepared to spend big money, we're not one of them.
I actually don't think it matters anymore anyway, his done such a great job at our club that he will get big offers in the summer, Pep could leave city, this could be Artetas last season if they dont win the league, I can see Chelsea getting rid of their manager and utd will almost certainly be looking for a new manager soon. All them clubs will be watching glasner closely. Even if he signs a new contract, lets face it, its only so the club get some money when he does leave.

I agree.
Look at the strikers that Manchester United have signed for a lot of money too.
Even Glasner may have struggled to get a tune out of them.
I also wonder how Eze will fare at Arsenal.
He's not a midfielder who knits the play together like Odegard and has plenty of competition in the wide areas at Arsenal.
I see him as someone who will occasionally flourish for them and make memorable contributions, but not one who will be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

The attitude of many fans can change after just one result. When we inevitably lose a game, some will start criticising Parish and Glasner.

Sadly this is football fans. Well, some anyway. The fickleness can get ridiculous. I mean a year ago after a bad start (due to Parish not signing players till deadline day and 7 of our existing key players returning from International duty late and exhausted) a few idiots were trying to convince everyone else that Glasner should be sacked. When it was glaringly obvious that he needed time to get new players up to speed and existing ones rested enough so they can perform. He needed time. Some just want results and want them now. Naive but thats the football world we live in.
I'm probably guilty of being a little bit too patient in the past. I was for example disappointed when we sacked Viera when we did feeling given time he might turn it around. As we now all know it turned out to be the right decision as we fans did not realise what was going on behind the scenes.
So it goes to show we can all get it wrong from the stands.
We fans might often talk like we know best but I'm 100% happy (and relieved) that its Parish that makes the ultimate decisions. He is not perfect but he loves our club and he gets it right far more often than not.

Our paper thin squad is still a concern now that we will start playing in Europe this week.

We know we have a very good starting X1, but it essentially picks itself (with Wharton's partner probably the only debate).

We can't play the same team every Thursday and Sunday and of course we will get the odd injury.
Similarly it is now a 16 man game with the 5 sub rule so every club needs a strong bench.

The back 3 and front 3 essentially pick themselves and there is very little back up. A serious injury to say Mateta or Lacroix and will will be immediately weakened.

Hopefully the 2 guys bought in on the final day of the window will prove decent replacements/back ups and with players like Eddie N fit again we do suddenly look stronger. Let's hope it continues

Plus with Riad due back in approx a month (according to OG) we'll even have both him AND Canvot that can fill in in the centre.

I think we kept Geuhi solely because we could not sign anyone else. That had a detrimental effect on the team and the manager (allegedly.)

Our squad for a club in Europe is paper thin and to be frank outside of a very small first team squad we have no one aside from a load of kids.We may find that comes and bites us.

The new stand, whilst apparently things are moving forward, the ice caps are melting far more quickly and Selhurat will be underwater long before we see this thing built.

Yes we have had a great start to the season and maybe after supporting the club for so long I just yearn for us to ditch this success nonsense and go back to being Palace again, but time will tell if we have pushed on from last season

They knew Guehi was planning to leave, when he turned down a new contract down, but hoped to change his mind. Nobody made an offer until about a week before the window shut, how can you blame Parish as getting an adequate replacement for the best CB in the league isn't easy and Liverpool or anyone else may not of made an offer.
It was obvious he didn't want to lose Eze and Guehi in the same window.

Yep they knew Guehi was planning to leave when he turned down a new contract, but it was clear he wasn't going to change his mind as we'd been trying to get him to sign a new contract since he entered into the last year of his contract and kept getting knocked back. We knew that someone would bid, it was inevitable, and it was more which club did Guehi fancy rather than if he would stay, and we knew what we would and wouldn't accept for him. So although Liverpool mucked us about with confirming anything with us until the 30th August, Parish knew that it was 99% certain that he would go.

So knowing that, knowing what we would and wouldn't accept for him and realistically knowing this for a lot longer than the transfer window, we should have had several targets lined up. Granted we had Diomande on the radar, but we should have had a plan if that didn't work out. Didn't Glasner say at one point that we'd missed some of our target transfers when he was questioning our transfer activity?

To accuse Parish of forgetting to replace a player because of a legal wrangle is a bit far fetched. It’s not as if Parish travels around scouting players and all that, is it?

That wasn’t the case that we knew Guehi was leaving anyway, because the offers came in late, and we were in a position to sell before buying. And the Brighton reject wasn’t our replacement was he? It was firstly that Pavlovic guy, but that fell through because of a buying chain due to financial rules.

I wasn't saying that Parish was scouting for players, but his attention was very much on the UEFA battle and I think this affected him committing to buying players. Could it have affected the budget? Maybe, but we knew we were going to be in Europe regardless and we would need a quality replacement for Guehi. When we knew Diomande wasn't going to happen, it didn't look like we had a plan B to me. Akanji was mentioned but he made it clear he didn't want to come to us, Pavlovic was a transfer deadline day bid (and I thought that fell through because AC Milan wanted to get cover in for him before letting us be an option?) and Igor was pursued hours before the deadline, doesn't sound like someone we've really had on the radar. Maybe Igor wasn't a replacement for Guehi, but trying to arrange a loan for a centre back when your's is on the way out on deadline day, does look a lot like it to me. Near miss IMHO, as he can't even get into West Ham's leaky defence, must be an amazing player...!

However all that being said, it's my only criticism of our transfer business in the last window. Pino is looking good and once he's more up to speed, I think he'll be a great asset. Uche looks like he could be very useful and Canvot was impressive on his debut I thought. Great to see Kamada showing us what he can really do and I couldn't be more pleased that my initial appraisal of him was wrong.

I think in reality it would be more likely to be one on the regular first team squad. Clyne, Kamada, Sarr, Devenny.

Canvot looks pretty mobile too, he could be an option.

I’m afraid that will not be the case.

I very much doubt they are thinking that. He's 22 and playing in league 1. We are too good now to be giving anyone but the most exceptional youngsters minutes.

By contrast we signed a full international as Mitchel cover. A lad playing for Blackpool isn't going to cut it.

Jamie Vardy was 25 when he went pro. Unlikely he will make the first team but not impossible

I disagree. Mr P makes a pretty good fist of his appearances and always seems to present as the true supporter he is. I loved it when he was interviewed at Wembley after our Cup win for instance.

I honestly believe he is seen by both the media and other football folk generally as an articulate, knowledgeable and enthusiastic ambassador, not just for our club, but for the profession as a whole.

Don't give up on your regular grooming sessions just yet Mr P.

Obviously pertaining to the current situation,I have no intention of being an Ollie stalker. The king is dead long live the king ( the incumbent gets my support). Sometimes the CEO is right but on the early start in the transfer window I think Ollie is right.
