Humble pie over Parish anyone?

He does like the limelight, but suggesting he does business late in windows because he likes the limelight isn’t true. You’ve just said you agree that he does get a better deal at the window so you’ve rubbished your own point.
Ok but I was expressing an opinion only, and as we know opinions are like arse holes… everybody has one. Both points are valid and can both be correct or wrong at the same time.

What I should have said was, you are amazing and have turned my life and wayward opinions and foolish ideas around. I have well and truly seen the light. Thank you.

As long as you’ve seen the error in your points, all good.

Its always so easy to criticise, this summer a few fans were quite hysterical.
Keeping a settled squad and minimising the number of our best players leaving was an excellent transfer window, for us all to see this season.
Its so easy to spend someone's elses money - I was and continue to be in 100% support of the chairman in his objective to run a sustainable football club. And how effective we have been in the January window previously when others spent all they had in the summer. Think of Wharton and Munoz two winters ago.
SP is as much a Crystal Palace fan as you and I, people need to remember that. He wants the best, equally to us, not less.
And fans sometimes also need to take some press rumours with a pinch of salt eg OG threatening to resign or Marc resigning as captian and going on strike following his failed move in the summer.
This summer was unique in the fact we had lost Dougie as SP, no CEO in place and SP having to focus on the court case to keep us in the Europa League, which must have taken up a huge amount of his time. He has now appointed a new SP and CEO. I am sure he has learned lessons and future transfer windows will run a bit better in terms of earlier business.

Nope still think questions need to be asked and his feet held to the fire.....

Why?.

I think we kept Geuhi solely because we could not sign anyone else. That had a detrimental effect on the team and the manager (allegedly.)

Our squad for a club in Europe is paper thin and to be frank outside of a very small first team squad we have no one aside from a load of kids.We may find that comes and bites us.

The new stand, whilst apparently things are moving forward, the ice caps are melting far more quickly and Selhurat will be underwater long before we see this thing built.

Yes we have had a great start to the season and maybe after supporting the club for so long I just yearn for us to ditch this success nonsense and go back to being Palace again, but time will tell if we have pushed on from last season

i need not eat humble-pie cos i never dissed Parish on here. His contribution to our club has always been top-notch.

Some plastic Eagles, on here, seem to forget what a tough gene-pool the Prem is. They also seem to forget how many massive & well-funded clubs are down in the Championship. Or even League One. Or even the enormous financial resources at ManUre and yet still ManUre languish with no glory.

This weekend we saw Chiesa getting done by Steve. Church done by Parish.

What's the latest on the stand? High gothic will be out of fashion in a century or two.
i hear you. And i share your frustration. However, think for a moment about Elland Road, The Stadium of Light, the Coventry Stadium, Hillsborough, or wherever Staeu Bucharest live.

All great stadia, all been mediocre for many years.

I doubt that those critisising Parish during the summer would consider humble pie now.

Opinions on here are largely fuelled by social media and clickbait, the majority of which is just full of untruths and speculation. So we have to navigate through that to get to where we think we are. And then people draw their own conclusions.

I'm a huge supporter of Steve Parish but I don't think, nor would I expect, that he gets everything right.

Leaving aside the UEFA debacle and just focussing on the transfer window, I think Parish was not helped by Liverpool's role in the Guehi saga. And if he did make a commitment to OG to get transfer business done early in the window, that's a tough promise to be able to keep. Not having a replacement for Freedman however, that looks to me like a mistake and a lesson learned.

I was critical and I was sweating until the window closed. As soon as the window was shut I was happy again with our business.

The strong criticism on here was really mostly before we had signed Pino and of course Canvot and Uche on deadline day.

We’ve done great business most seasons in the Prem, especially recently, but boy does the club leave us to sweat at times. I think Parish does like to leave business late, it’s a pattern. A lot of others in his position are wary of it, but it works for him.

I don’t think any of us were out of line to be sweating at the time though. As things stood, we had an incredibly thin squad, and it looked like we were losing our two best players without replacements or bringing anyone in to strengthen.

Anyone who is still sweating now, yeah, they’ve got it wrong. But if nothing had happened for us after the 27th / 28th August and especially if we lost Marc as well which was looking dead cert at the time, that would have been the disaster a lot of us thought we were in.

A lot can change in a few days in football. Maybe there is a lesson to keep the faith. Still don’t think the responses were that unfair at the time.

Well yes, we kept him because we couldn't sign someone of the right caliber. Diomonde got injured in the first game of the season, he may have been no1 target. Liverpool waited until 48 hours before hte window shut to put an offer in.

Is that not the right course of action? The detrimental effect on the team and manager.....lets not believe everything we read now. Team looks pretty harmonious to me.

I wont say its the biggest, but with Nketiah back, and Riad close we have options pretty much all over the park. We've got full international players on the bench, (no kids on the bench on Sat). So IMO we are in a pretty decent position.

I cant pretend to know whats going on with this, and the complexities.

Our paper thin squad is still a concern now that we will start playing in Europe this week.

We know we have a very good starting X1, but it essentially picks itself (with Wharton's partner probably the only debate).

We can't play the same team every Thursday and Sunday and of course we will get the odd injury.
Similarly it is now a 16 man game with the 5 sub rule so every club needs a strong bench.

The back 3 and front 3 essentially pick themselves and there is very little back up. A serious injury to say Mateta or Lacroix and will will be immediately weakened.

Hopefully the 2 guys bought in on the final day of the window will prove decent replacements/back ups and with players like Eddie N fit again we do suddenly look stronger. Let's hope it continues

That is the same with almost every team in the world.

IMO we dont have a paper thin squad

I think I under-estimated SP. Especially in the early days when he was still learning how to run a club. Transfer deadline day , Palace always seemed to miss out, but it has become obvious that SP and the management team always have a plan. Even if fans don't know what's going on, he always seems to be a steadying hand. Sometimes there have been odd moments of 'difficulty', but SP's ultimate card now is that he was at the helm when Palace won their first trophy, and their longest continuous stint in the Premiership. Keeping OG happy must now bee his main concern, as we appear ready to strike a rich seam of form.
I don't think SP ever has a full day off. His Phone must always be switched on, 'just in case'. I'm sure the rewards are worth it, and I'm grateful we don't have a Daniel Levvy, Ron Noades or Ken Bates as our chairman,....of indeed a fat Greek cvnt
