Steve PLEASE don’t sell Marc

Face it. Guehi wants to go. And not only that, he’s been content to adopt a position that empowers Liverpool to low-ball us and puts SP at loggerheads with OG. That is, of course, his prerogative — his legal and contractual entitlement. But it would have been nice if he’d been willing to look beyond his own immediate self interest; balancing his own finances with those of the club that has nurtured him. Moral reciprocity etc. Perhaps he could have even taken a leaf out of MO’s book.

Can you see any more colours out of those red and blue tinted glasses?

Why would anyone look beyond their own immediate self interest when it comes to work? Marc has been a great captain and servant to the club, he's England's best CB and in a world cup season, he wants to test himself against the very best, train with and play alongside the world's best in the biggest stage possible. Loyalty in football stops at the fans.

If we get the money we want from this deal, with his contract being up at the end of the season, we have done well.

That isn’t correct. There are numerous examples of footballers repaying loyalty by signing contract extensions that protect the club’s position — including our own MO. Guehi is perfectly entitled to treat it as a purely commercial arrangement if that is the way he wishes to lead his life, but don’t you think that’s a little sad given the adulation he has received? I do. This has nothing to do with standing in his way of playing for a different club if that’s his wish. The point I’m making is that the way he has gone about it has directly led to the difficult issues we are now facing.

Take the money, thank him and wave him goodbye. As much as he is a big part of our team he is just another footballer passing through Palace. There will be others, some better, a lot who are worse for sure, but none last forever and Parish knows this. He’d rather have money to use than lose a player and have no money to replace him next season.

Guehi clearly doesn’t want to sign a short term extension to protect Palace’s investment in him so we must let him go.

We have got great value out of Marc Guehi.

I haven't seen signs that he wants to go now, just that he isn’t willing to sign a new contract which, as you say, is his contractual right and very very few people would do differently. He has been excellent in the games so far this season.

Of course he wants to go now. If he didn’t then Liverpool wouldn’t have made their offer.

Guehi has been the ultimate professional. Reports at the wants to see out his deal and stay. It is the club who are forcing the deal through to recoup money.

I would keep him personally but not my money.

Whatever happens, Marc Guehi has been an absolute colossus for the club. He has been the ultimate professional and I hold him in the highest regard. Good luck to him if he goes I will always be cheering him on……. If he stays then I’ll be buzzing. I’ll be glad when this window finally bloody shuts!!!!

Agree with every word asides from the bold which I have no idea about.

I’ll always be a fan whatever unfolds.

MG wants to further his career.
MG probably has an agent in the mix , who is trying to extract the maximum monetary reward from the deal. That's his job.
Palace, likewise, are on a damage limitation exercise.
No one is irreplaceable

In the end the club is bigger than any player. The nature of Palace's business model has to be turning a profit on players that have come good and whilst their appeal is high. Because let's face it, we've wasted money on enough duffers as it is.
As for MG, if his contract is up this season and he doesn't want to sign an extension then he should be sold.

People always talk about loyalty when it's one of their favourite, big name players, but there is no loyalty between club and players, on both sides. The club will get rid of an underperformer or a youth prospect who isn't going to make it, as soon as they can. Football is a short career, footballers are ambitious, guided by money-hungry agents, so they will never want to stay stagnant. Why sign a new contract when he wants to move on eventually. He could sign a new contract and Liverpool/Newcastle/whoever may decide the price is now too high.

Wilfried Zaha, for all his loyalty in signing big money contract extensions, is an example of someone misguided throughout his whole career; leaving for Man U, not playing for England, not taking a big money move when it was the right time to...he left it too late and is now on the "streets will never forget" scrapheap.

In fairness Zaha's move to Man United was at the perfect point in his career - IF Chewing Gum Alex had stuck around.

I disagree, he needed 1 season in the premiership, standing out from a low/mid table side, instead of a Champtionship one, before making that move IMO.
