Zavier Gozo?

I love this signing - exactly what the club should be doing. Taking a punt on this profile of player, buy 3/4 of them and we only need 1 to come good. Surround that with Premier League experience (7 out of 10's) and we have the perfect formula.

We are assembling some squad. Eventhough it feels a bit slow and steady, we do have quality throughout.

I would like to add one of my favourite quotes - comparison is the thief of joy. Apply that where you see fit.
 
i know nothing about this lad but pace, energy and youth are a good recipe for success. There are current squad players that clearly are talented but can and should be upgraded.

My take from afar is
Take the money on JRS, Esse and Deveney
Invest further in Franca and Ozoh.

he obviously has the physical attributes now it’s up to the coaching staff to produce a diamond!

Agree with JRS and Esse. Bit harsh on Devenny though. Good squad player and can play as a 10 if needed, a position we need cover in.

Devenny is the archetypal utility player that clubs like Palace need. Glasner liked him because he followed orders, whichever role he was asked to play. Yes, he was better in some than in others and at best no more than adequate. I don't see him going unless the fee is decent, and for me that's got be over £10m.

We have essentially replaced Clyne and Imray with Mingueza and Gozo. It does seem strange that our first two signings have been for possibly our strongest position of last season, and both presumably backup options.

Hopefully they will both prove inspired acquisitions. I was not aware of either of them before signing them... but I was not aware of Muñoz, Lacroix, Eze, and Olise before we signed them either...

Gozo was originally a winger if i'm not mistaken.

We've now signed Tomiyasu as well , meaning that our 3 signings so far have all spent the vast majority of their time as right backs/right wing backs (assuming Gozo is confirmed) where we already have Munoz, Cardines and Kphora ( if he ever gets fit).

It's not necessarily a problem as the 3 signings are versatile and provided that they can perform at a good level away from the position where they have predominantly featured.
It's said the club see Tomiyasu and Mingueza as players who can play across the back line and Gozo as a potential winger/number 10.
I hope the decision maker on positional changes is not the same person who saw Johnson and Devenny as RWBs!

Devenney does play wing-back for Northern Ireland albeit on the left.

Tomi's preferred position (per his interview) is as a centre back and he would like to play in a back 3. He played CB in Japan and in Belgium. At 6ft 2 he could do a job. Gozo started out as a winger.

Ahh yes, Gozo as a winger makes sense then. If he has the ability and is comfortable in that position.

As for Tomi, I expect him to play in the back three.

It's all starting to come together. Those who were pulling hair out whilst the World Cup was still on, regards us not getting names through the door, can start to relax.

To your remarks on Brennan, honestly I thought his "best" performance for us was when he filled in at RWB. Best being relative, I know, didn't have much competition for that title so far. It was a forced hand decision to play him there, never intended.
