Yeremy Pino

Does anyone make it to the Premier League without being a good player? Some are better than others but they're all good. Anyone who doubts it should try and play against someone regarded as not much cop.
You're not comparing yourself to a professional footballer to make a point are you? 😂

When I say good, I don't mean a good player, I mean performing at a good, consistent level. Being able to perform consistently is what separates top tier players from the rest

Had a 70 odd million buy out clause, Villarreal let him go for 25. Says it all in my book. Cannot cross, cannot pass, gives the ball away, get pushed off ball way too easily. Scores the odd good goal but just not good enough at this level

No one who saw me play would ask that.
No, what I'm saying is that the number of players who make it to the PL after getting through the various levels of selection in different age groups is very small indeed. The chances of anyone doing the same without being regarded as a "good" player are zero but yes, you're right, consistency is the big difference.

"On the positive side he never hides and always wants the ball.
He makes some clever runs and is a game competitor.
He has a decent first touch on the ball.
There is something there "

thats my take on Pino as well. He plays a lot of sharp balls in and around the box where this is little space but they are not coming off at the moment. It is never easy to decide if this is Pino's fault, the player he is trying to get the ball to or just good defending. Kamanda had similar issue in his early days but things gelled down the line.

This is what I see in pino. His thought is ahead of the players. Twice he put balls in and no runners. This could even be OG safety instructions to the players but pino is not a Spain player cos he’s crap !

If being a lifelong Palace fan has taught me anything it is that players level and contribution is not a constant - many thrive under some conditions fail under others, have changes in form and can be hugely affected by confidence.

It could be a Collymore or Sorloth who we didn’t get the best out of. Wilf, Aj and a number of players we have helped get a big move and havestruggled elsewhere. Even Mateta and Eze who have looked very different players at different points in their time with us.

For a lot of the time period we are judging Pino, Wharton has been poor, Hughes has been imo, Mateta too and they have been led by a manager who has been more inconsistent than they have.

He’s shown flashes but also made mistakes, it could still very much go either way.

General comment is underwhelming and should be on the bench.

BUT we need a player in that position (Eze/Olise) who looks for the ball and tries to create something. In that respect he has tried to fulfill his job role. BADLY.

I suspect the vision was we had the next David or Bernardo Silva on our books. Highly unlikely from current evidence but you never know.
Guessand looks more of an Eze type player than Pino, I hope we keep him.

All the arguments seem valid to me because the jury is out. Let him start next season under anew manager and let’s see.The same applies to Johnson.
Personally I’d buy Guessand. He seems quite strong which is almost a requisite unless you’re highly skilful.

He does yes, but more so I think Chris Uche could be our next Eze in midfield. Another one who I think is played out of position.
This is definitely one thing OG doesn't get right - square pegs and round holes, whichever way round it is🤔 Guessand looking good so far and looks like one to keep along with Uche, who needs more game time - for me both ahead of Pino Johnson and Kamada at the moment

He works hard, he doesn't hide, he's trying to make things happen. That's all you can really ask of a player. Maybe with a full preseason under his belt, and a new manager, he might come flying out of the blocks in August.
I wholeheartedly agree.
He does have quick feet, not the most physical of players but shows his football intelligence and possesses good movement between the lines.
The intensity and physicality of the PL has found him wanting at times.

Being generous, perhaps it is a question of the quality of his teammates. Often one gets dragged down to the inferior standard because other aren't able to think/play at the same level. I did say I was being generous!!!

My guess with our attacking midfielders is that they're wingers who don't really understand the ten role that Glasner wants. Which is more of a central position initially - but involves drifting in and out. If you're thinking of positioning, rather than just playing your game, you make mistakes. That's where Glasner could consider changing frankly. We could play with wingers and cross the ball. Strand Larsen has already shown he can do something with crosses. Pino can use both feet but is stronger on the right foot and Sarr is right footed. I don't know about the others. I wonder are any natural left footers, I'd guess Guessand might be.
I believe there is a case for asserting that some players have been allocated positions which do not reflect their strengths.

I also find him frustrating but think he has the makings of being great for Palace. As others have said, Mateta and Eze didn't set the world alight for a good while.

Hopefully, he will bulk up over the summer and pre season and kick on from there. The best may be yet to come!

My take on Pino is that whereas he shows talent, he is too lightweight (and hasn't enough skill to counteract this). he constantly gives the ball away, and cedes possession to the opposition too often. Also, and most alarmingly, he hasn't really improved in the 7 Months we've had him despite a lot of playing time.

He does, however show desire, and never shies away from the game - always looking to make a difference.. and occasionally he does. Not sure it's enough though. I'd be giving Guessand a run out in that position.

Pino made over 130 appearances for Villarreal in 'La Liga' over 5 seasons.
In his first 4 full seasons, Villarreal finished 7th twice and 5th twice, accordingly they were a very capable team. He would not have played so many games for them if he never possessed quality at that level.
We have not seen the best version of Yeremy Pino.
