Yeremy Pino

I’m a bit baffled by this thread to be honest. I think he has shown great potential. We have lost three of our best ever attacking players in successive seasons. Olise and Eze were completely different players when they left compared to where they started. Mateta is a completely different player, Sarr looks so much better than he did initially.

Not to say any players are above criticism. He’s not the first name on the team sheet (yet). His finishing has not been good enough… but whose has? If he is making clever runs the midfielders (bar Wharton) are not picking out the midfielders need to work on that. Kamada picked him out a few times against Wolves.

Glasner would probably say he’d have settled a lot sooner if he had got a full pre-season.

I think this is largely a fair assessment, but there remains an issue around physicality and how he will.be cope.
You have to be absolutely exceptional like Bernardo and David Silva so your skill outweighs the physical challenge.

We are of one mind on this matter.

I will add that he has been deployed in a No 10 role which is unfamiliar to him so he is adjusting to new demands.

Yeah, I agree though I am confident he’ll adjust. He’s short but, compared to the likes of Bernardo and David Silva, I don’t think he’s slight/weak.

The most frustrated I have been with him is when he goes down looking for a foul which is unlikely to be given. I think lots of the time he could keep battling and sometimes get the ball. To a lesser extent I think Kamada and Wharton have similar issues at time, if refs don’t protect them. I think it’s something that can be coached.

Sarr on the other hand goes down just as easily at times but he is much smarter and effective with it.

i don’t understand hatred, it’s pathetic and small-minded in pretty much any circumstance, but especially against someone who is obviously trying their best, I hope YP goes on to flourish in an Eagles shirt. However, for a couple of reasons, I don’t understand the obsession with his song, even given it is very catchy, easy to learn, perhaps that’s the reason? Firstly, it may just be putting too much pressure on him, he needs to develop quietly into the no.10 role in the premier league, constantly singing his name may just be counterproductive. Secondly, does he deserves such hero worship, should it not be earned, I know as 23 year old I would have buckled under the weight of such expectation? On the other hand, Ismaila Saar has arguably contributed more to our recent success than anyone, and he goes; excuse the pun, relatively unsung. I think there is a song, but not much of one. If songs inspire, then surely a few more frequent verses for a player that has merit, may just encourage an arguably already nailed on Palace legend to go that extra yard?

So perhaps some Saar song suggestions, I’ll start it off with this, to the tune of Coldplay’s yellow:

‘Ismaila Saar,
See how he glides past you,
What the f*** you gonna do,
When the net bellows.’

carry on

Pino. The poor guy is seen as the direct replacement to Eze, which he is lol

Eze was a very experienced, confident and exceptionally talented player for Palace. Poor Pino has come in with great expectations upon his shoulders. He's doing ok, give him some slack.

The best team I have ever seen live (apart from Palace!) was the Barcelona team of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta that had 5 players under 5 foot 8.
The key for them was quick pass and move to evade heavy challenges.
I think we'll have to play in a similar way to see the best of Pino.
It's unrealistic to expect him to outmuscle or outpace defenders in the mode of Mateta or Sarr.

Eze didn’t pull up that many trees in his first 18-24 months really. One in two games he could go missing. Yes when he was on fire he was fabulous and won us games and the cup. I will take that but pino only been here a few months. He has something as you don’t get 3-4 shots a game by not being a player and knowing the game. Be nice if he scored more but that’s coming I’m sure.

They actually had a piece on sky sports yesterday with Glasner talking through his tactics, showing how the system really doesnt matter, aslong as players move and know where and when they're meant to be, it constantly changes and we go to a 442 to press as its the easiest formation to press in. Spoke about the city game and how we was happy to give them the width as we wanted the middle of the pitch. Then spoke about Barcelona, with the false 9 and how they set up with diamonds and triangles so their players never played with their back to goal. It was all very scientific and tactical. But lets be honest, if you've got busquets, xavi, iniesta and Messi in your team i doubt formation really makes that much difference.

I agree with you. Mr Glasner as we know is not the sort of manager who picks players if they are not performing. He obviously has a lot of faith in Pino. It is easy to forget just what a huge adjustment a foreign player has to make joining an English team, especially if they do not speak the lingo.

Hopefully, our man will take Manchester United apart today.

I am not concerned about Pino's performance. On Thursday he suffered the same as Eze and Zaha have done in the past.

How often were they marked out of a game because we did not have another creative player in the team. On Thursday we made the same mistake. His performance suffered because we had Lerma and Hughes in midfield.

Eze was terrific when playing with Olise, Zaha with Baloise. When we are a one trick pony it's not hard for the opposition to work us out.
